As any golf-obsessed person can relate, being away from golf for longer than their limit is torture. It should be illegal in the contiguous United States. I'll throw Hawaii in there too. So suck it Sarah Palin!

Last Wednesday, I was working at my home golf course, and as I stumbled up the bank of the lake with my full net of golf balls, I slipped on a wet patch of grass and landed on my knee. I stretched some ligaments and have been icing it and taking Ibuprofen ever since (doctors orders of course). My scheduled date of return back to work was.... tomorrow.

Not gonna happen.

I was making my breakfast of champions this morning including 3 eggs, 14 strips of bacon, and a bagel. As I was cutting the bagel, I found out that dad apparently sharped the knives.... it went through it like butter, and right into my index finger. Nice. It didn't hurt, but I knew it was pretty bad. Went to the walk in clinic and got 4 stitches. Get stitches is now checked off on my list of badassery.

Doctor said the stitches should stay in there for 10 days. And I'm assuming I can't play any golf right after the stitches come out. I haven't golfed since last Wednesday. I'M GONNA DIE.

I'm one of those crazy golf-obsessed people that have to play golf every day or every other day. I'm looking for this to be my career (If it doesn't work out, I'm getting a degree in architecture so don't worry peoples). The thing I hate about this is that already I've forgotten my swing thoughts. I'm relying on you my friend, Mr. Muscle Memory.

That's my awful boring story. Now entertain me with yours please so I don't snap and do something crazy like surf the tv channels and find that I actually might watch The Hills for longer than 13 seconds (My record so far).

For all you golf-obsessed fanatics, what's your longest involuntary leave from golf, and how are you not dead?

~RHPM

Get stitches

Does getting stitches to patch up mole removal count as badassery? If so, then I am one - twice over!

To answer your question, I suppose a seemingly interminable northern Ontario winter could count as an involuntary leave, but then, I voluntarily live here. I feel your pain, RHPM. Well, not your literal pain, thank goodness. Get well soon, and get thee back to the links! Cheers, DoctorK P.S. Sarah Palin can see Canada from her house!

Competitive golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course... the space between your ears.

Try breaking your left wrist in 6 places and being in cast for 14 weeks Took me about 3 1/2 months before I could swing a club again. 18 months since it happened now and wrist is 98% good. Still lost a little of flexibility so had to change my grip slightly cause I can't close the face as well as I used to be able to.

Broke my wrist playing football in highschool, I would imagine that would keep you out for a while. What the hell happened to cause that kind of a break? That looks gross...no offense. To the OP, at least your time away is temporary, I rarely get to play because of student teaching right now and the financial burden it brings. (It should be illegal to pay to teach for free...lol)

Haha yeah I know, I can post up the video of getting the pins removed if you really want

Motorbike racing, engine siezed and threw me off doing around 70mph. Landed with my arm outstretched and pretty much gave me a 2nd wrist.

OUCH! Yeah, that would do it. I love to watch the bike guys race at the local drag strip (my father drag races), but they are nuts.

EDIT: ...o and I'll pass on the video as the screw is still in my wrist...where it will stay.

Mine isn't injury related, but for the next 2-3 weeks I'm screwed with around 30-40 pages of papers to write and a few exams before graduation in less than a month >.< I don't forsee too much golf going on until after that, worst part is that I have an outing I've been invited to the day after graduation with probably little to no practice between now and then hahahaahah :'(

It rained today with severe lightning so the range and course were closed. I've just been pacing the house and staring at my bag...

I'll add to the wrist injury theme. Damaged the ligaments in my wrist playing goal in soccer and couldn't play for 6 weeks at the height of summer. Funny things is, after a crap score my first round back I started playing the best golf of my life and dropped my handicap about 6 strokes.

Thank you sir.

Yeah, she said Russia. (Or was that Tina Fey?) Was just joking about Canada because that's where I live.

Well my last leave of absence was this winter when I broke my wrist snowboarding. I couldn't play outside, but I was completely changing my swing indoors. At the end of the break it seemed that these changes stuck with me and felt normal which was nice. As for a problem in the middle of the season just read some golf magazines, watch some golf channel, and just putt if it doesn't feel too uncomfortable.

Sorry to hear the bad news. What is this thread anyway? A spoof on the Jaws scene where they're sat on the boat in the dark comparing wounds just before that theme tune and subsequent gnashing of (sharp) teeth?

Think I'll go hit some balls over lunch.....sorry, kidding as I have too much work to do. P.P.S: Sarah Palin is a sandwich short of a picnic....
