Sure, you've had a birdie, eagle, or maybe even an albatross but...

have you ever had a goose? There were three geese hanging out at our driving range at about the 180 yard mark. I could see 'em out there but didn't pay any attention...what were the chances. Sure enough, I pureed a six-iron and hit one on the fly. It must have heard the ball coming because before the ball got there it jumped and flapped a little but the dodge was futile and I beaned it square in the side. It didn't seem to affect the bird too much because it kept on munching the grass and flew away about ten minutes later.

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

Almost got a "water loon" once. Well, actually DID get him, but fortunately he didn't die on the spot. He was watering the green, walked over and stood by the pin, waved us up and kept on watering. I'm sure he felt he was safe, but I caught him on the side of the neck on the fly with a 4-iron as he looked up to see what I was yelling "FORE!!" about. Down for a count of 8, but he took the punch pretty well and went back to watering when we left the hole.

I killed a pigeon practicing in my parents' back yard, shortly after I started playing. I like to say that was my first birdie.

Years ago my wife hit a line drive off the tee of a long par 3 right into the side of a goose as it was lounging on the right rough about fifty yards out, thing barely moved just turned to look at what hit it, didn't seem to be hurt at all. The good thing was it kept her ball from going into the water that runs down the right edge of the hole, she put her second shot onto the green and nearly holed her first put for a par, best she ever played that hole as she was so distracted at the thought of hitting that goose she didn't think about how much she hated that hole as she never could reach it from the tee.

Yep, nailed a goose right square in the chest at a muni near me that has big problems with northern geese on the 17th hole. It lifted her up off the ground about 6 inches, her wings spread out, and she let go of a monstrous honk. She stumbled around about 10 seconds and finally shook it off. Those birds have so much down and fat on their chests its no wonder a 12ga 3-1/2 dram load is needed to bring them down.

I think Tom Kite hit a bird of some sort once, by accident. I think it cost him a tournament: 2001 FleetBoston Classic, if I remember correctly.

Tripp Isenhour hit one, too, but his story is a lot different.

To the best of my knowledge, the only non-plant living thing I've ever hit on a golf course is myself.

I grew up on a mixed farm (grain, hay, cattle, horses, pigs, chickens, etc) and we had to kill a lot of things - you're welcome. While golfing, I've been hit in the chest with a 3-iron (thanks bro!) and I've probably scorched a few worms off the tee. I think the OP was in for some strange events after he "pureed" his 6-iron.

Similar to Randy Johnson killing a bird with a fastball ( )

Hit a goose flying across the fairway with my tee shot ... it immediately dropped the ground, stumbled around for a couple minutes and took off again to catch up to the rest. F'ing weird... those things can take some punishment lol

If I remember correctly, The Big Unit got arrested for that. Or am I thinking of something else?

I've killed a bird midair. I was playing a par three that had powerlines hanging over it and a bird was sitting there. Hit it square in the head.

when i first started, i hit a worm burner with the driver and there was a few geese about 20 yards away, hit one square in the neck and flipped em head over heals. you can tell he was struggling to breath, the others kinda jumped out of the way when he got hit, but went back to check him out and knew he was a gonner and started walking away. we came back by 3 holes later because it passes the tees on the way to the green and he was indeed done. i felt bad but at the same time, thats the risk you take living on the golf course.

I haven't hit anything myself but I saw a small bird getting hit. There was a group of birds on the fairway and they started taking off, just as they started to fly one of them took a direct hit by my partner's ball. He hit a 3 wood that starts low and ascends, and just as the ball left the club face still low it hit the poor thing in the wings. It did not die but her wing got twisted at a severe angle and she couldn't fly no more. We left it there but I'm pretty sure she died some time later as she was unable to fly or do anything. I felt like **** for her.

    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
