Worst piece of s*** ball I've ever played with. The Maxfli and Dunlop DDHs I played with as a kid in the early 90s were better than this thing!

Let's review...
Off the tee: Servicable, almost but not quite comparable to my NXT tour, but the soft face leads to some wierd stuff. Easy to hit a cut with that sticky, soft cover material.
Irons: ho-hum, no better than my NXT tour...except for any full iron shot they frayed like a piece of paper.
Wedges: no better than an NXT tour, and the fraying was awful
Putter: Felt really hard and clicky...couldn't get used to them...terrible

Not only was I unhappy with them inside of 200 yards...but I couldn't play a ball for more than one hole without it being unplayably frayed!!! What's the point of spending 1/2 as much for balls when you have to throw the ball into the shag bag at the end of the hole?!?!??!?!

I do hit the ball pretty hard...and was looking for more spin than a NXT Tour or the TP Black (ball I'm experimenting with at the moment) without going to the Pro V, B330, Penta price range...

But the Gamer is not a 'gamer'. It's just like hitting a 'rock' ball that's covered in dried cake icing. Terrible terrible terrible!

If I were to go into that price range again (like, for next fall) I would play DT Solos or Slazenger RD Feels.

Thoughts on the Gamer?

I realized I called it a TP gamer instead of a TF gamer. I should have said POS Gamer, anyhow.

Why would you expect more spin from the Gamer than a NXT Tour or TP Black?

The Gamer has never spun as much as either of those balls, you can see that right on Golf Digest's website. Considering how cheap the Gamers are, I think you're being a bit unrealistic. Name another ball for the price that performs better, there ain't one. They do shred easy though, I agree. The "V2" version of the Gamer is supposed to have a better cover for more durability.

But, the gamer supposedly out performed the NXT Tour in Golf Digest's ball tests. That was my point in trying them out. I know they don't perform better than the TP Blacks.

I was just really unhappy with the durability, and found the performance to be drastically overrated considering the way that people talk about them.

It's a great ball for the price. Good amount of spin for a cheap 3-piece ball. Good distance on drives, and has soft feel with shots around the green. I think you got the click you hate with your putting because of the type of putter you have. Really the only major flaw of the ball that I agree with is the wear that it recieves. It is not very durable and only lasts about 2 holes or so per ball.

If you hate the Top Flite Gamer, then I recommend you go and try the Bridgestone e6+ ball. 3 piece construction and surlyn cover makes it very durable. This ball is pretty cheap, and made to reduce the amount of sidespin on the ball. Also good for adding distance and still maintains a good amount of spin and feel around the greens. I think you'll like it.

Did you hit the original gamer or the v2 version? If it is the original, I agree. They have greatly increased the durability in the v2 version.

So TP means both TF and TM?

I used 1/2 a box of V1 Gamers and that was enough - most overrated POS I've ever used, and I prefer a pretty cheap ball (see sig) so you know it isn't because I'm pretentious. I couldn't even give them away.

No, it should have read TF gamer. Oh well...I hated mine. My dad (senior player) wouldn't take them off my hands for free.

I would say try the V2....they are actually softer (not clicky at all!!!) I liked the gamer, but I think I will really like the V2...I have only played around the green with it, so I can't fully endorse it, but around the green I found it to be very responsive.

As for looking for more Spin....take a look at the Srixon Tri-Speed Tour for around $29 or so. I have been playing the 2008 model Tri-Speed and really like it. I think this ball does not get the attention it should. I have not played the Tour model, but additional spin was difference between it and and the regular tri-speed. These balls are very durable...the longest I have gone is 14 holes without loosing one, and it looked almost new by the time I teed of on 14.

Have you compared the Srixon Tri-Speed Tour to the TaylorMade TP Black?

You can find the TP Black's for $25. I can't imagine there being many, if any better balls out there for that price.

I have not used the the Tri-speed tour yet, and I have very little use nor success with any of the TM balls for some reason.....

The best guide to golf balls that I have found.

They're missing a valuable stat - weight loss after an iron shot. I bet for the money they have the highest numbers!!

If you really want a good ball, the Callaway HX-Hot is probably the best non-urethane covered ball ever made. Srixon's lower priced balls are also great, and the Soft Feel cannot be beaten, it compresses so easy, it's like hitting a tennis ball.

I agree that the graph is not comprehensive...it is more informative about how the ball performs around the green.

I don't actually know what you mean by weight loss after an iron shot?

He means the ball is lighter because material has been shredded off of it.

I really liked the gamers ability for the price, but the durability made it not worth it to me. I'm going to try the Pinnacle Dimension balls next round, apparently they aren't the distance rocks that Pinnacle normally put out.

Completely true. No ball under $30 is even close.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
