Suppose you layoff for 6-12 months.

1. Which part of the game do you suffer the most? In other words, what do you need to practice to get back in shape?

2. Which part of the game do you suffer the least?

In my case, short game around green suffers the most. It takes several practice sessions to get back. It's also my weakest link.

My driver tee shot suffers the least. After 1-2 tee shots, I'm back to normal. It's not my strongest game but I practice the least with the driver. Perhaps, 1-2 shots per bucket.

I've taken at most 6 months away from the game and noticed for me it's simply ball striking. I'll hit everything thin and shanks. Takes me a bit to correct it.

However, mentally I seem to make everything much simpler.

Chipping and pitching goes to hell for me if I don't practice it at least once per week. I've been away from golf for most of a month, went out for the first time today and was mostly ok until I was under 100 yards. Then I was completely lost.

On the other hand, my irons seem to have held up pretty well. In fact, they may even be a bit better, just since I'm able to relax a bit more since my expectations are lower. Completely blew one 5-iron today, but otherwise the irons were pretty good.

short game and putting but sutle things such as grip strength in your left hand for right handed players will effect the way you swing and hit the ball.

Shortgame/putting suffers the most, full swing suffers the least.

Definitely feel and touch...I still hit everything OK, but it is the knock-downs, the delicate chips, the accelerating on putts, feeling the clubhead, etc that takes some time.

For me it is putting and chipping, the short game shots where feel is everything. My swing is pretty incorporated and find its way back after some balls.

6-12 months, happens each year, called winter..

I would probably suffer with my short game touch. I can keep the putting stroke good over winter indoors, and it will take me about 9 holes to get use the speed of the greens again. I am pretty good at getting back into the golf swing.
