I think he was asking in a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek way...and probably wanted to wind Tiger up a bit.

Makes a change from all the usual over-reverential, incredibly dull, standardized questions most reporters ask him. Mind you, I think the comment from McIlroy would probably have annoyed Woods more...regardless of Woods' record in Ryder Cup, you don't want to be winding the opposition up like too much...

Because its a stupid question. Its golf. "you dont win majors anymore" "you dont win tournaments anymore" Give me a break. People go years without winning and then win a ton again. Covering golf he should know better. Thats not a polarizing question, its a stupid one.

I'm pretty sure the reporter's question was just a joke.

Also, I don't think Rory meant he wants to play Tiger because he would be the easiest to beat. I think Rory wants to play Tiger because it would be a challenge. I can't imagine Rory taking a cheap-shot at Tiger.

I would love to face him. Unless his game rapidly improves… I think anyone in the European team would fancy their chances against him.

Cheap-shot? Nah. Rory grew up idiolizing Tiger, he probably said it to fire him up a bit.

At least the reporter was honest, though it was a silly question. Better than the woman in one press conference that kept asking him "Do you still lover her (Elin)? Do you love her? Do you love her? Do you love her?". I'm sure she said it at least three or four times. Tiger is good at making the right answers, the press have gone much easier on him the last months compared to this spring.

Reporter was trying to get Tiger to take the bait and give him something to write about. Tiger is going to have to get used to reporters trying to get him to blow up, at least until he wins another major.

The question was funny, but I wished he asked it 'normal' ("you've had a disappointing year with no wins - does that make the Ryder cup more important to you this year") and gotten an answer.

This is exactly why the question was amusing: he gets asked boring, normal questions all the time.

And anyway, we know the answer: he never has been or will ever consider The Ryder Cup important to him...
