Read a ton of posts here and elsewhere that make me wonder how many golfers fall into such a catagory. Guys going through many sets of irons and even more drivers looking for the "one". Kicker was one today of a guy stating he has gone through 2k+ this season on drivers including 650 on one and still haven't found one. Obviously manufactures love it and got to be one of the reason why such a turnover in clubs.

Most seem to agree with the indian over arrow theory but someone is buying all the new and improved equiptment. Some will claim to be "ho'in", last I looked ho's got paid not did the paying. Seems like at best you're a john at worst paying to be taken advantage of.

plenty of people on here who switch gear like every 2 weeks lol.

I've stuck with my Callaway X-Forged all season...only reason I got them was because my Mizuno Tzoid's that I used for 8 years got stolen.

Only thing I'll change out is my driver. Found one that I'm confident with and happy with overall...sticking with it for the long run.

you'll see guys on here who change drivers because ones causing them pull, push, hook, slice, etc etc. They never want to admit that its their swing...even though the advice they'll give others is "indian, not arrow"

I guess it kind of depends what the player is trying to get out of switching clubs. I rotate clubs all the time. I know they're not going to make me a better player, but I just like trying out new clubs, installing new shafts to see what they'll do...just tinkering. It's part of the enjoyment of the game. I don't really spend much on them, I usually buy used 2-4yr old clubs and turn them around for near what I paid after I'm done tinkering. If a person thinks that equipment is really going to change their game to any real extent (once they find a set that fits them), then they aren't being realistic.

But, all said, what does it matter to you what other people do with their money?

I buy all my clubs used with exception of wedges when the grooves wear out. Iron sets around $150-$200 and woods around $100-$150 (or exchange if possible) as opposed to $750 for new irons and $400 for new woods.

I'm glad I did this as working with different clubs - CB, blades, offset, different shaped heads and other variations helped me figure out what I like. Demo days and rentals don't cut it for me. I've gotten extended use of forged, blades, those weird Ping head shapes, CB, etc... I think they've helped me become a better golfer not by equipment effect, but what the equipment is capable of.

its not that people really care what others do with their money... its just a bit laughable. Posers who have to have the latest and greatest. We've all seen them...

the guy who has to use everything Tiger Woods is using...the guy whos decked out in Taylormade gear...the guy who has to have blades or a smaller driver head or X-stiff shafts just to look like they're amazing golfers... its just laughable to see... i personally couldnt care less what they do with their money.

I think that if you are only buy new equipment to get better instead of taking lessons then that can be a bit stupid. To me there is nothing wrong with switching clubs if you are taking lessons and improving along the way because equipment can make a big difference IMO, at the same time it can make little difference as well. Every golfer does this including pros that are at the top of their game. For example Ive heard Anthony Kim say " I love this 3 wood I have now, I can hit this one straight, every other 3 wood Ive had I cant hit straight."

I love them!

It means when I need new clubs I get Just-barely-Used last years models for extremely cheap. let them spend away!

I agree with you completely. Some will call me a hypocrite because the oldest clubs in my bag came out in 2009 but the only reason for that is because I started playing two years ago and needed new clubs. My Wilson putter got stolen, while my irons and woods had shafts between senior and regular when I need stiff ones. I'm definitely not going to change clubs any time soon, unless it's replacing my wedges because the grooves are getting worn out. It's the indian, not the arrow. I could probably shoot 80 with my old clubs quite easily, yet I switched because I was spraying the ball all over due to the stiffness of the shafts.

My mindset is, find something that you like and stick with it. If all of a sudden you start messing up your shots, go work on your swing.

i hate any argument that includes "the pro' s do it"

are you really comparing yourself to AK? yea when you have a tour player's swing, the subtle differences matter a lot...not to mention pro's have their clubs tweaked in every way imaginable to perfectly suit their swing. when you're a hacker with a swing that you can't consistently repeat over and over and over... its your swing, not the club.

Once again I agree with you golfro. But you also have to admit that when you get to a decent level (I call myself a decent player) it can slightly help. Won't make a huge difference but a custom fit club can give you a small edge.

oh i agree. it definitely helps... but the point is... get fitted to your clubs, find the clubs you're comfortable with and run with it. go GOLF for god sakes instead of spending so much time and effort shopping.

I have friends just like that. THey'd rather spend a sunny afternoon at a pro shop checking out new golf clubs to buy and switch in and out of their bags then actually golf... I have a friend who used to carry 100% all Nike VR gear...this past year he switched to Mizuno blades, mizuno driver, fairway woods, wedges, bag, evertyhing... he's played probably 3 rounds this whole season... my guess, before the fall season ends, he'll be trading everything out for Titleist's 910 series woods and Titleist MB's.

ehh, agree to disagree on this one. Ive witnessed first hand what different shaft and head combos can do.

Of course it makes a difference. I'm not arguing that it doesn't make a difference... but take YOU for example. You went through 3 different drivers just in the past couple months...

why not just get fitted once and be done with it? instead, you went through buying 3 different drivers, trying to find the one that works, claiming that your driver was causing you to pull your drives... so you went and bought a tour driver with a smaller head so you can "control your shots better". 2 weeks later, you traded that out for a Taylormade. you've admitted yourself, you just like buying stuff.... like your car stuff for example? if i took a wild guess, i'd guess you're the guy in the 98 Integra or Civic with neon lights and a body kit?

For someone who states they couldn't care less about how people spend their money you sure do have issues with people expressing their opinion. If someone wants to dress like in all Nike stuff and have the equipment that matches who really cares. It's a hobby and how they choose to persue that hobby is nobody elses business but theirs. So don't smash on other people just because they take enjoyment from the equipment side. Too much hatin' going on the links these days.

Il give another example of how equipment can help. I play with a guy regularly, in his upper 30's who shoots in the mid 70's, 4-5 handicap. I was asking him how long it took him to get that good and if he took lessons. He told me a few things but then he said, but to be honest when I bought this driver it helped out my game alot.

Yes, welcome to a discussion. hatin or not, we're having a discussion on a forum. what do you want, everyone to hug eachother and talk about how much they love eachother's golf clubs?

I just recently purchased all my gear (June-ish which is when I got back into the game after 5 years away) and I've made two club purchases since: a new LW since mine was stolen and a new putter since I needed something different. I'm most likely going to head back to the golf shop sometime next year to see about a new driver or at least a new shaft. I currently have the stock shaft in a regular flex, but as I improve my swing and clubhead speed, I'd imagine I'd need to look into a stiffer flex but I'm also interested in the different shafts since it seems most of the people on these forums do not use the stock shaft.

For me, I usually get the idea in my head that my gear can help me improve without anything else, which is obviously false. I think most people are going to find a point where they have spent so much on their gear and they still shoot bogey golf, then the lightbulb will go on.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
