What's the fastest nine hole round you've ever played? After school today I went out to play nine and decided to try to squeeze in 18. On hole 11, I realized I would have to run to finish, so I did that. The back nine I finished in 45 minutes (and shot 3 strokes better than my handicap :) ). What's your fastest nine hole round? With a cart? Without a cart? Does anyone know the "record" for a nine hole round?

Best time walking is about 1 hour, 15 minutes. Have done it a couple of times when the course was open, I was with one other player, and I was playing OK - not super, just OK.

Don't know that a cart is that much faster, because you have to stop 20 yds. in front of the green, guess what wedge you'll need, carry around clubs, etc. If I'm hooking and my partner is slicing, that's another cart time-waster. Plus, I always need a couple of drive-backs in carts to get the wedge I left behind the green. Keeping track of clubs is so much easier when walking.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Once this year I played in absolute pouring rain, and I was the only one one the course. I kid you not, I finished all 18 holes, walking, in 1:30. So, about 45 minutes per 9. I wasn't rushing either, I guess I was just walking fast to get out of the rain and of course there were no waits.

I took a cart out in front of everyone two summers ago and did 18 in 90 minutes. I *was* rushing, though. Played about the same, got back to the hotel before my wife woke up for breakfast. A couple of weeks ago I played 18 in 2:15, not rushing, but again with nobody in front of me.

One hour, 10 minutes walking. I didn't speed through my routine or anything, just didn't have any set backs and obviously the course was wide open. I am by no means a fast player. I have my little routine I follow.

Not exactly on topic, but my best 18-hole round with cart this season was 1:45. Got out solo after a tournament, and had the course to myself. One of my best striking days, with most GIRs made as well. Also one of my best putting days (25 putts total). Last two holes had me chasing sunlight, and even though I felt slightly rushed, I made great shots that kept me in the fairway with minimal searching and chasing. I didn't even think about time until the 17th hole.

When walking 9-holes during the Summer in the AM, I got through in 90 minutes no issue (I can recall a sub-75 minute round).

I wonder if Your watch is any good....

So, a normal 18 holes is about 7-8 km to walk. Normal walking pace is about 4-5 km/h, fast would be up to 7 km/h. Carrying or pulling a bag would certainly slow the pace down, maybe to 5 km/h. Hitting a ball in the rain about 80 times (35 putts + 45 others) would cost about 15-20 sec per stroke on the average even for a fast player. That makes about 20-26 minutes. I find that equation highly unlikely to match with Your 1,5 hours. Once we tried with a friend of mine to play 18 holes by foot under 2 hours in a good weather on an empty course (late in the evening). Carrying our bags and playing high 70's both on a shortish par 70 course resulted in a failure. We slightly exceeded 2 hours even though we ran a little. After that experience I find it extremely hard to believe anyone claiming having played under 2 hours without rushing. Sorry.

I can believe that.

Walking distance: 4mi (6200 yard course plus about 50 yards per hole extra) Walking speed: 4mph brisk walk (4pmh is a brisk walk accordig to Wikipedia) Walking time: 1 hour Time per shot: 15 seconds (includes stopping, looking around, setting up, hitting, starting walking again) Total shots: 75 (You're a 1.5 handicap, so I'm guessing maybe you shot a couple strokes above for the day since it was raining.) Total shot time: 19 minutes (with a bit of padding) That leaves an extra 11 minutes of padding for extra time to get between holes, look for the ball (I'm guessing you didn't do much of that), line up extra hard putts, etc. I think that "rushed" is more a frame of mind than a physical state. If you walk briskly, don't get distracted by anything other than your goal, and just take a couple seconds here and there to relax and setup, you can move just as fast as someone who's rushing. Sprinting on and off the green isn't really where you save time anyway.

I can believe that....

Nice calculation, that's basically how it went too. I was in the rain so I didn't spend a whole lot of time taking practice swings or reading greens. That and the fact that there were no waits really sped it up. I was however actually surprised when I read the clock.

P.S. I shot a 73 btw.

    • Phillyk is very close by. Ok, I understand how the watch and tags are meant to be used, but I was just curious how it actually works. I can't really think of any other way than what I mentioned above. No worries. If it works it works. I'll probably pick one up. My co-worker mentioned a free app called 18 Birdies which offers similar services. However I personally do not like keeping my phone in my pocket while golfing, nor do I want to be clicking around on the phone while out on the course. I toss my phone in my bag and leave it there until I am done golfing. Tapping a club head to a watch seems wat more convenient.
    • Yes, but not always the case. IMHO, green speeds are a huge variable and can effect score variation from week to week or month to month significantly. Our own course that is running at about 8-9 depending on the week/day, can run up to 12 (no kidding) in peak months around certain event, and most like me score 3-4 shots higher on an average, missing a lot of 3-4 footers. There are any PCC adjustments that I am aware of. Have you every played their course? I am betting $20 you will find some answers if you haven't already.

    • I would recommend spending some time at the range and film your swing. You can post it in the Member Swings thread. At the range, you can figure out how to control the driver a bit more. We can offer some pointers once you post in the Member Swings section.
    • With the H4 or the watch, you tag the club before hitting by putting the tag next to the device. The tag is on the club butt end. After a round, you don’t really think about it too much. You just do it. I don’t know how far you are from @phillyk, but he may know an instructor in your area.
