i will be changing driver lofts this weekend from 11.5 maltby to a 15 degree callaway x...both clubs will be x flex

swing speeds over 120

at present with 11.5loft carry results in 200 to 290 with roll in excess of 50 yards (less than 50 on the longer carry drives but more than 20 in the fairway). Trajectory is low even on the longer carrying balls, -5 angle of attack to help explain the unusual trajectory.

Could I expect a carry increase of %10? maybe %20 on average? with a corresponding decrease in roll? or will it be under %10 in difference?

Not trying to be a smart ass here, so bear with me, but I didn't even know they MADE a 15 degree driver. Isn't that really a 3 wood?

A 15 degree club is a 3 wood. An 11 to 13 degree club is a 2-wood. A range of 200 to 290 yard carry with a -5 degree angle of attach is something that needs more attention than a new stick.

Yeah like SM said, fix the angle of attack instead of trying to fix it with an equipment change. 120mph swing speed WOWEEE.

no argument there....its just an experiment. I figure its worth a shot 'time wise' to try a used stick for $50 than fix the badhabits.

I can't argue with that. I have a used X 3-wood in my bag right now. I have no idea who'd trade that thing it - it's money.

Do they make a 15 degree driver in X? Looks like a reshaft to me as the higher lofts usually come with the more pliable shafts for slower ss. I would like to see this all on video...sounds like fun.

Maybe by this weekend it will be ready. I know this probably has no correlation but, I am increasing the loft of my driver by %30 from 11.5 to 15. Any chance of the trajectory increasing by the same percentage?

Agreed! I've heard a lot of people are surprised how well it works when they try out a higher-lofted driver, but you're usually talking maybe going from 8.5* to 10.5*. I am also a lowballer even with my 10.5* G15 and (mid/high launch) TFC149 shaft and have toyed with the idea of trying to find a used 12* head to try out. Getting fitted here is a bit of a pain.

Stretch.

ill video if its semi succesful..if not then ill just post results...I read on another forum last night bout a guy with the same negative swing as mine and he plays a 15.5. He stated anything under a 10loft resulted in worm burners prior to the 15.5.... and now he claimed to hit 280 with roll at 100 swing speed.

This is way too familiar sounding for me and if the experiment even goes half as good for me, then the results should be a much longer ball in flight and maybe no more line drives.

A couple of years ago some people were going the other way, and experimenting with "Thrivers." Basically, this was a driver head shafted at 3-wood length to improve control.

Google "Thriver" and you can find lots of accounts of making them or playing them.

You could be the next Youtube sensation...good luck and it should be no problem getting an X into that head...I just figured that there was little to no chance it was ever produced with an X.

or you could spend $50 on a lesson and figure out how to fix your swing........

a 15º "driver" isnt the answer bro

200 to 290???? thats quite the difference.....

i also have a hard time believing you carry the ball 290 regardless of the loft on club check the PGA Stats maybe that one time you had a tailwind and it bounced off the cart path......not average... just sayin....

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
