Im looking to get a new driver because i can slice the heck out of my current driver sometimes. Most times I can swing nice and easy and play a little fade to about 220 yds but I want to get a little more distance on the ball so i want to be able to swing harder and when I do so with my current driver with it being a 9* I have heard that it causes more side spin on the ball. so currently the ones I am looking @ is the Adams Speedline 10.5 and the Cobra s2 offset 10.5 and the regular cobra s2 10.5

Would I be cheating myself by playing with a draw driver? I hit all 3 clubs pretty straight around 240-250(simulatior checked acurracy on distances by bringing in current drive) but the draw one is def the one that travels the furtest approx 260-265. but I feel as tho I am cheating myself by having the driver already set to fight a slice.

Could having a draw driver hurt me down the road?

its the indian not the arrow bro

spend the money on a lesson and fixing the swing fault
then fine tune your equipment

but if having a new driver gives you a warm fuzzy feeling...then by all means......it makes me feel good too

If it is adding 40-45 yards to your drive, I wouldnt worry about being cheated.

Then again I would probably go with an adjustable so you could turn that draw bias off if you really feel guilty

Normally I would believe you but the first time I swung my buddys adams speedline driver I hit it 267 dead straight. I aimed to left edge of fairway thinking it was gonna end up fading or slicing and It actually drew a little and ive hit it multiple times since and I almost always hit it straight.

If it is adding 40-45 yards to your drive, I wouldnt worry about being cheated.

Ill have to check to see if it has an adjustable head to turn off the offset. It does come with a tool so it might be adjustable. but yeah im getting to swing harder so the distance was expected.

i agree with the poster suggesting you spend the money on lessons rather than a new club. i don't think you're cheating yourself, necessarily, but i think in the long run you'd be a lot better off just learning how to cure the slice rather than take a quick fix on it with new equipment.

Exactly...if they made a draw face putter that helped me make 25% more putts, I would own it.

What I think will happen is you will have a honeymoon period with it for a little bit, but then at some point one of two things will happen: 1. you will feel you can go all out with it and begin slicing it anyway (and then you'll be scared to ever go back to a normal driver), or 2. if and when you correct your over the top swing and begin attacking the ball properly from the inside, then you'll be hitting monster hooks OB.

So if you play once a month and don't care about improving much, maybe go for it. But if you're more serious about improving (and I think you are) work on the swing instead.

I agree entirely - I'm sure draw drivers have their place, but they're really nothing more than a quick-fix. Go for the lesson, you won't regret fixing your swing.

Ryan Ryan Ryan!!!!

You absolutely would be cheating yourself if you bought a draw driver. You have seen me play. You know my biggest miss is a slice, when I miss. (lol Brain Skatell) You need to get fit for the proper shaft, then hit the range for a weekend straight. Dont even play golf. Just hit that damn driver till it goes straight.

Trust me.

I was a 19 last year and got to where I am without a lesson. Just put in the range time. You gotta understand what your doing wrong so you can fix it. I can hit your current driver straight? I even hit that big draw on the 17th hole at your course. You hit such a big draw with your irons. I think if you get a draw driver, once you figure out your swing you will start hitting massive hooks. I would rather slice than hook. Once you make minor adjustments to your swing you can play a controlled 250 yard fade. Right now you have that elbow coming way too far from your body causing the over the top swing.

Get fit for a normal driver that you can hit fine on the monitor, then upload your swing on here so everyone can help critique. My swing from Jan 2010 is awful compared to my swing now. I have faith in you because even if you shoot a 120 something your right back out there the next day. You love the game, but you just gotta figure out 1 or 2 things and you will be in the 80's.

Although I firmly agree if you are slicing, there is a flaw in your swing. But, if you did not have your current driver custom fit, it could be a bad match for your swing. Then there is the "honeymoon" period mentioned above, most times a new driver does instill that little confidence kick you need to swing more free and not worry about your current swing flaws. If you could go out and play without thinking, we would all be much better golfers. Good luck with your new stick!

to the poster that asked if I am serious about getting better I am and the money on the lessons isnt a problem its the time to work on what is learned in the lessons. Right now I play about three rounds a week and thats one on thursday and two on saturday. everyother day I work til ranges in my area are closed so I dont have much extra time to hit the range unless I played less and Its just so much fun to go play.

But also no I havent been fit for my current driver I just started playing last september/october so I havent been playing long and my current driver was a gift for christmas from my grandparents who no nothing about golf.

I always believe that equipment is just a tool. If you hit a draw driver straight, so be it. If you have the money and want the club nobody here should change your mind. Most of the guys that say you're cheating yourself spend countless hours looking for just the right fit for their game. While I am a purist I don't see the problem with a draw biased driver if it helps you enjoy the game. Hybrids are almost so easy to hit they should be illegal. I have one, ya know why? Cause they are legal. I don't see the problem.

I had the very same problem this season. I could sissy hit my driver straight ~200 yards, but if I got into it I sliced so badly that when the ball hit the ground it no longer rolled away from me, it rolled right. My goal this year was to be able to get a decent 300 yard drive (I throw around weight like it is empty).

My last few games this season, I had it figured out. I quit lunging at the ball and was even able to crank on the club like I thought I should be able to do. I still have the same club........

I know from recent experience. If you fix your swing with a club that is plaguing you, you will gain confidence that a new club can never give.

Draw based driver or not - a 10.5 degree is going eliminate at least part of that slice you get off of your 9 degree

I suppose another option would be one of the many adjustable drivers out there... You could set it up to be draw biased at first and as you make improvements to your swing you could make the necessary adjustments. This way you get the best of both worlds... a somewhat quick fix for right now but a driver you can still use down the road when you get better.

Good point. Im actually gonna get fitted for one and ill look @ some of the adjustable ones to see how they work. I actually hit the cobra s2 adjustable head driver and the sim had me hitting draws which I have never hit with a driver so I dont know if sim was off or what but it was a consistent draw on everyshot.

So let me get this straight...you would rather spend the extra money to buy a club that you are just going to hit the same as the one you got.

Go have one lesson, find out what you are doing wrong. That $60 will be more valuable than any driver you are going to find, no matter how closed the face is. Play one less round on Saturdays the next few weeks and figure it out. Gonna be way better for you than replacing something that isn't broken. JAT.

Also… it's good to learn this shot: Middle up. Not generally outside your feet in either direction. I generally have it slightly forward of center, yeah. Short version: tip your upper body in the direction of the slope. Look at the GC3. You can find them for really good prices sometimes.
