Be careful when putting any valuable or expensive putter in the hands of a golfsmith or big box golf store associate.  I've seen photos of nice putters which were all scratched to hell because the person working the loft and lie machine did not know what they were doing, didnt; care if they damaged the putter or the finish, etc.  Even heard stories of store managers shrugging their shoulders and basically telling customers tough luck when your putter gets jacked up.

Better off asking around at local courses that carry Cameron putters if they can do the work for you, finding an EXPERT and asking them what precautions they will take to avoid damaging or scratching the putter.

That said... how well do you putt with it now?  If you're hitting the sweet spot consitently, you're good.  I'm not a huge fan of spending big money on fitting, but that's just me.  Ive been as low as a 4 cap, and have NEVER had a club fitted for me in my life.  Off the rack and in the 70's for me.  Probably the exception though...

I just purchased my Scotty Cameron this year and I was fitted for it by my local Driving range where they did my fitting for my AP2's. I think that it is something that can easily be done and its always good to get done just to make sure. I was lucky where nothing was changed but in stead of a 35inch i was told to get a 34 inch. but was given a mini lesson in just making sure it was the correct fit and it was pretty neat. I too agree with Bryan when I would stay away from the golfsmiths and golf galaxy's. go to the place where you purchased it. more like than not if they make an error they are more inclined to make good on it. Good lucky and enjoy your great putter.

I am a terrible putter, hopefully this putter can help. I bought it from a friend. He was quitting golf, I got it for 150$ and he only used it twice. So even if I hate it, I can sell it for more then what I got it for. I am assuming I will love it since its one of the best putters out there...

Well, how far from fit are you for it?

I'm a bit proponent of being fit for each club you have.  If it's just a loft or lie, yeah, go somewhere that a caring professional can tend to it.  If it's a ton of changes... I'd be iffy doing that to a Scotty, but I don't know much about those.

Nice pickup, and at a good price.

All you need is a rare "Tour Only" grip and you'll be sinking putts in no time!  How's $300.00 for a grip grab ya?

One of many things that makes no sense to me:  why make a product tour-only?  Isn't the whole point of having your product in the hands of a tour player to increase sales?

yes, however some scotty people are crazy enough to hunt down, and pay for the tour stuff. Im sure that grip probably costs 5 dollars to make at most, if it was not a tour grip scotty would probably charge 30-40 dollars. because of the tour designation people buy it, not because they think it performs any better, solely because its very rare and a tour only product. Some scotty tour headcovers sell for over 1500 dollars...and thats just the headcover. The rare putters get into the high single digit thousands. Crazy thought for us non scotty players, but some love collecting these so much they are more than willing to pay that for an extremely rare putter.

"Tour Only" "Circle T" etc are sometimes used a mere marketing adjectives by the #1 Marketing Genius in golf.  The Colored California Style Grips (lime green, purple, pink) --- HOW MANY do you see on tour right now?  I can only think of a couple.  In this case, a "Tour Only" grip simply means....  "you can't buy them scottycameron.com  ... but you can buy them other places at whatever price the market currently dictates"  Same with most of the Tour Only designated headcovers.  There are FAR more made than what are actually in use or used on the Tour.  It's all about creating a demand for a product that is somewhat accessible if you know where to look and have the $ to spend.  Covers costing more than $1,000 are out there.

A made for "player X" Tour putter , with his initials or name stamped on the putter is a different type of "made for the tour" product.

Does anyone know whether club fitters can change the weights?

I'd imagine that a proper fitting would include loft, lie, length and weight.  The Studio Newport 2 model has interchangeable weights.  The custom shop sells the weights, but I can't exactly just guess and buy them online, and if local club fitters don't have them I would imagine its difficult to determine which is best.

I'd be really hesitant to mess around with Scotty Cameron too much.  If you go to a club fitter that can fit you for a Cameron, just have him order it to your specifications from Titleist directly so you know it's right.  You'll have to wait awhile for it, but if you are going to spend $350 on a really good putter get it done right.  I've seen hack jobs done on those putters.  Guys would bring them into a shop, having bought it right off the floor and wanting it shorter.  They just hacked off an inch from the butt and put the grip back on, totally screwing the club up weight wise.  I know the new ones have interchangeable weights to accomodate for different length shafts, but I wouldn't risk it with a really expensive putter.

No even a good fitter?  I'm not talking about getting fit at golf galaxy.

I think fitters usually offer a discount or even free fitting if I buy the club from them.  Plus, I dont know that I want to pay the fitter to determine what I need, then pay the custom shop to make the changes.

Does Titleist offer an sort of certification to qualify putter fitters for their Cameron lines?  I'm just always squeamish about having someone other than the Scotty Cameron factory modify one of those putters.  A lot goes into making one of them and they are very precise, and that is likely what you are paying for.  I know before the heads had different weights depending on how long the shaft is, now it seems they are going with this interchangeable weighting system to make customization easier.  I'd give Titleist a call and tell them what you are planning on doing, ask them what they think is best, and if they are okay with it ask them if there is anyone in your area they can recommend to do it.

I'm with Brian on the this one. I have never been fitted for my irons, drivers, or putters. When I bought my clubs at Golfsmith, and use the hitting tape. I'm always told no changes are needed.

I guess it's really for people who are tall or short then average size. I'm 5'9" 160lbs.

Titleist has little to no information. http://www.titleist.com/golf-club-fitting/ They mention all fitting except putters.  On a message board on their website, I found this response to someone looking for a putter fitting:

  • At this time, Titleist does not offer putter fittings at either of our National Fitting Facilities.  Scotty Cameron's Putter studio does not take public fittings at this time either.  However, at the Titleist Performance Institute at the Oceanside test facility in California a putter and putter fitting is included in the 2-Day TPI Experience.
The real question I have is whether fitters would have those interchangeable weight plates in stock like they would shafts in a fitting cart.  If they don't then I've got to send it to the custom shop anyway.

Pretty crappy of Titleist not to offer more avenues for fitting since they are selling these things for $350.  Seriously only a fool or someone with money to burn would buy one of these things without the ability optimize the length, loft, etc for their putting stroke.
