Went into GG today intending to by a moderately expensive putter. Was looking at TM Corza Ghost and Nike Method Core. Walked out with an old Ping Zing. The thing has a brass head that's so old it's practically green. 35" shaft with a nice soft Winn pistol grip. I putted great with it in the store. Took it out to the course today and played 18 with it and that thing's money. It took me a couple of holes to get a feel for the speed but after that I was deadly. I think I might have accidentally found the holy grail, although it's a little early yet to be sure. It sure is sweet though.

I really don't know that much about Ping putters. I used a new Anser for a while a couple of years back but other than that I don't have any experience with Ping putters. I have no idea how old this thing is. Can't find a serial # on it anywhere. Not that it really matters. I paid $53 for it which I'm sure is a premium price but if I keep putting with it like I did this afternoon I figure I got a real bargain.

Surely there must be a serial # on it somewhere. Otherwise, how do I figure out what I've got? Again, not that it matters but it would be nice to know.

Almost everything Scotty Cameron has ever made has been a blatant rip off of a Ping putter.  They were great putters 25 years ago and they're still great putters today!

Sounds like you found a putter blessed by the golf gods! You are the chosen one or maybe just have a great eye for putters! What does it look like? Is it just a mallet? Good luck and hope you keep up the putting...

Yes I agree. I just bought a Ping Zing2 putter same as you did - for $45. It was adversied as being bronze, but afrer it arrived I thought I would check as it looked like Berilluim Copper. It was, so I really got quite a bargain. Anyway, tried it out on the putting green and straight away started to make big putts. This thing seems alive to me and I cannot understand why more players don't buy up some of these old putters - after all, these won a whole lot of majors in their time. Easy to line up, feels very balanced in the hands, and the touch for distance is the best I have experienced.

I have owned a ZING and liked it as well. I think I gave $20-25 for it at a pawn shop, though mine was the stainless model. I sold it to a friend for $20. I keep a bronze Anser 2 in the armory and won't sell that one.

Day in and day out, I putt better with an old Wilson Geo Low 600 remake- a flanged blade similar to the 8802 or Arnold Palmer. When I get in a rut sometimes, I will bring the old PING out.

I have a Pal 4 that I used for years. Great putter, great feel. I'd still be using it except that I've switched to center shaft putters that fit my stroke better. Enjoy the new putter!

The only thing new in putters is that there are more varieties of mallet-style putters available now. The blade putters are basically the same designs from the 1980s or even earlier. Usually blade putters are some variation of the Pings or 8802.

Mine was a Zing2 - so although advertised as brass it was in fact BeCu - Ping never made a Zing2 in brass. Hard to kconsider something else that would basically be just a copy - although I admit I do like the feel and look of miled putters. I put a Pure midsize on it the other day, but in a moment of madness I chose green - turned out when it arrived it wasn't old style forest green but something close to a chemical style green - sooo - aftera coup,e of rounds I'd bought a Ping58 midsize - that bright green just looks wrong onthis putter (although I am pleased to say its mighty disctracting to my partners during a round!)

I have just bought a Ping Zing i-series putter. The insert on the face makes a different sound when struck right on the center. Is this the way it should be or is there an adhesion problem with the insert? If there is, is there any way I can remove it and reapply?

I play retro irons for a reason not mentioned on this thread, I prefer the feel of BECU (copper beryllium) irons I play either Lynx Parallax or Ping Zing for irons.  The Zings are my main set and the Parallax are my back up set.  I’ve tried many newer sets from most of the name brand manufacturers, they just don’t have the same feel. Yes you lose some distance due to the weaker lofts of the older clubs, but the accuracy and feel is better for me.

I’ve been using the same old putter for over 20 years. I realize there are so many new ones out there, but I see no need to change. If you like the look, feel, and you can put a good roll on it and make putts, who cares how much it costs or how old it is. Glad you are having success with it. Enjoy.

Not all ping putters carry a serial number. I do believe that you are thinking more a model number than a serial number though. Almost all of the older ping putters had a model number stamped on them. I remember my first one. My parents bought it for me for a graduation present way back in 1972. It was the most expensive putter out there and it went for a whopping 20 dollars!! It was a Ping Kushin. Ping also made a model called the Ping Cushin. It was basically the same as the Kushin but just a bit longer.

Great putters back then, and still are. I still have mine and it is mint except for the grip which I have replaced. Money means absolutly nothing when it comes to putters.A 400 dollar putter does not make you a good putter. It may impress your friends though if that is what you worry about.

I do get mine out once in a while though. The main reason I don't use it that often is that it sure doesnt have the feel as some of the newer ones do. I use a Spider putter and I really do like the feel of them. The older Pings are a bit on the clanky side, but back then they were the thing. Those and the Accushnet Bullseye's and dont forget about the George Low putters. I believe that the Wilson 8802 model was a copy of them.

But if it works, that is what really matters...Enjoy!!!

I lost an insert on one of my putters. What I did was filled it with epoxy. I would put a layer of epoxy into the cavity and let it harden. Then drill some very small holes into the epoxy and add more epoxy. I kept repeating this process until the cavity was full. I then took a fine tooth file and draw filed it till it was perfectly smooth with the putter face. I don't use it much anymore, but when it was my go to putter back 20 years, it worked just fine...

I have a Ping Zing2 BECU putter that I bought new. I took it out for a couple of rounds earlier this year. I putted pretty good with it. I also have a Ping Anser putter too. I have a newer putter, but some times the older ones work better.

My kid putts with an old Ping Zing of mine (his now I guess) He does very well with it. To this day I use an old Berillium Copper Ping  Anser on fast greens. Kid (22) next door used another Ping Anser  putter of mine and wanted to trade me for a Mizuno forged mallet. I tried it on the next hole, drained a 30' and the deal was done. Ping always made good putters. I wish I never got rid of that old original Ping putter that gave the brand its name.

The number on the iron you used to get there means nothing. The real question is "How close are you"? I love playing guys who boast they are hitting their 2020 superstrong 8 iron at 185 yards, and my old azz is hitting a 5 with my 20 yr old forgings.. They generally SUCK because their club gaps are stupid,
