I currently use the Nike PD Soft and have done fairly well with them.  I am thinking of switching to the Titleist NXT.  Would this be a good switch or are they the same?  I consider my self a "advanced" beginner and my game is improving steadly.  Cost wise they are close (<$20 vs $25) so the price is not an issue.  Club wise I play with graphite shafts so I am also wondering if there would be a difference between the two in that respect as well.

I think you'll like the NXT models. I prefer the NXT Tour version myself. While you're checking out new balls, give a sleeve of Srixon Q-stars a try. I just picked some up, so haven't used them enough for a complete evaluation, but early reports are they are very good. Good enough, in fact, that I think they might have displaced the NXT Tour as my preferred ball of choice.

I agree.  The NXT Tour and Srixon Q-Star are both great balls for their value.  Worth a shot!

Personally, I was never partial to one ball over another, but the Bridgestone Treosoft is a great ball for a good price.  Also, I know Top Flite has a bad name is golf balls, but the gamer V2 is an AWESOME ball.  They are 19.99 and you can get them anywhere.  Also, if you are looking to try a premium ball, like a ProV1 or something similar, go to lostgolfballs.com and order some used ones.  The AAAAA dozens are still in your price range and are pretty much new.

I'd echo this. Though I usually use what I'm able to find while waiting for the next group to tee off, I really like the e6 ones I've used; more so than even Pro V1s.

Never liked the NXT Tour - always found it dull and lifeless and greenside spin -- not there -- not a poor man's ProV1 as it's been described -- but a poor ball.

The ball getting current raves in that price range is the Q Star.

Really? I find the NXT Tour spins just fine. Especially for the price.

You should get slightly more spin with the NXT but it wont be like a tour ball.  You should also consider the Srixon Q-Star and Bridgestone E5.

I agree. Any Titleist ball other than a ProV1 feels like any other mid priced ball. You may as well use any other ball that suits your price range. The NXT balls do not share any characteristics of the Titleist premium balls (I refuse to use the term "tour balls) other than the name.

To the OP  - UNless you have a hugely fast swing speed, the NIke PD soft will suit you fine and you won't notice much difference between balls.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Thanks for the input.  I think I will stick with the Nike PD softs for while.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
