i20 Driver

Awesome looking black mate finish.  Targeting players that want a lower launch and lower spin than the G20.  This driver has a higher MOI than it predecessor, i15, but at the same forgiveness levels as the G15 because of the addes tungsten weights on the sole.  Improved aerodynamics for a faster clubhead as well.

Quote:
PING today unveiled the i20™ driver, fairway woods, hybrids, and irons, relying on innovation and custom engineering to ensure that every design attribute helps to optimize performance, right down to the color of the clubs’ finish.

“In the i20 series, we’ve combined workability, distance and forgiveness with the goal to make any golfer a more versatile and complete player,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “We’ve engineered the i20s with a solid feel and generous forgiveness but also a degree of workability for the player who wants full command of the clubface for controlling trajectory and shot shape. Anyone who is passionate about their game is going to be very confident and capable with this game-improvement technology.”

The matte-black finish of the driver, fairway woods, and hybrids is more than eye-catching, Solheim emphasized – there’s a real performance benefit. “The non-glare finish absorbs light, allowing the player to focus without distraction,” he said. “Our tour pros are very enthusiastic about the finish – but even more so about the i20s’ performance. Players are able to execute any shot they want with confidence.” The 460cc driver head is highly aerodynamic to reduce drag, which generates clubhead speed and ball velocity for maximizing distance. “The i20 driver is incredibly long but also highly accurate,” Solheim said. “We gave the fairway woods and hybrids the same matte finish, and their designs offer the high-launching forgiveness that makes them reliable from all turf conditions and from the tee.”

i20™ Driver

The crown is highly aerodynamic to reduce drag for maximizing clubhead speed and ball velocity, resulting in greater distance. The 460cc head features dense tungsten sole weights that increase the MOI and position the CG for low-spin, penetrating trajectories. The head is made from Ti 8-1-1, a lighter, lower-density titanium alloy that allows for a weight allocation that adds to forgiveness. A distinctive matte-black finish eliminates glare and distractions. Golfers can choose from two stock shafts: the PING TFC (Tip, Flex, Control) 707D for a low-spin, boring trajectory, or the lighter Project X Black by True Temper, offering mid spin and a higher trajectory.

-Drivers available in 8.5°, 9.5° & 10.5° lofts
-Stock graphite shafts: TFC 707D (R, S, and X flexes) and Project X Black (5.5, 6.0, and 6.5 flexes)
-U.S. MSRP: $385

Fairway

Quote:
i20™ Fairway Woods
The stainless steel i20 fairway woods are versatile performers, helping launch the ball with ease from all turf conditions and off the tee. When the ball is sitting down, the i20’s compact shape ensures the head will glide through heavy grass and launch the ball high and straight. Its neutral head rotation promotes square impact. The traditional head design makes aiming easy, and a matte-black, non-glare finish provides a distinct head profile. Golfers can optimize their ball flights with their choice of stock shafts: the PING TFC (Tip, Flex, Control) 707F for a low-spin, boring trajectory, or the lighter Project X Black by True Temper, offering mid spin and a higher trajectory.

-Fairway woods available: 3S (14º), 3 (15º), and 5-woods (18º)
-Stock graphite shafts: TFC 707F (R, S, and X flexes) and Project X Black (5.5, 6.0, and 6.5 flexes)
-U.S. MSRP: $255

Hybrid

Quote:
i20™ Hybrids
For launching the ball high and landing it softly on the green, the i20’s compact head and low- deep CG are perfectly suited for the job. Forgiveness across the clubface allows golfers to swing confidently from heavy rough or tight lies with accurate results. More surface area low on the clubface ensures forgiveness to optimize launch conditions. The straight leading edge and slim, contoured head make aiming easy. A non-glare, matte-black finish eliminates distractions to help with aim and focus. Players can choose from two stock shafts: the PING TFC (Tip, Flex, Control) 707H for a low-spin, boring trajectory, or the lighter Project X Black by True Temper, offering mid spin and a higher trajectory.

-Hybrids available: 17º, 20º & 23º
-Stock graphite shafts: TFC 707H (R, S and X flexes) and Project X Black (5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 flexes)
-U.S. MSRP: $210

In the multi-metal irons, a progressive set design features long irons that are slightly larger, high launching and more forgiving. The smaller short irons feature less offset and provide exceptional control. Distance control, a key to consistent iron play, was a priority in the irons’ design, Solheim said. “The stabilizing bars and the thicker face offer great feel and ensure that golfers can hit to precise yardages. Distance control is an absolute must for better players, but precision is going to help anyone lower their scores.”

A low-glare satin chrome finish and ferrule offer a clean, high-performance look. Combined with PING’s new CFS (Control, Feel, Stability) steel shaft, the i20 optimizes feel and trajectories.

Look quite nice. Trivial I know but like the ferrules on the irons - never really liked the Ping irons w/o ferrules. Quite pricey.

All of these look really sweet. i20s, visually are a big improvement on the i15s. I'll have to see them in person before I can really figure it out, as the PING website doesn't have the best photography of the clubs.

I am really looking forward to hitting these; I was thinking of going toward the AP2 712's, but definitely will hit them and the i20's. I am also really interested in the driver; I always fight with too much spin on the driver, and it looks like this is engineered to reduce that. I have read a February release date?

Yes I think early February.  I'm looking forward to hitting these at the PGA show.

I'm pretty excited for these irons, got the i15's right when they came out and have been hitting the Anser's since June.  The pics I've seen, they look very similar to the Anser's at address and I love the satin finish.  Sole grinds are a little different than the i15's, there's more material in the heel to decrease digging, more bounce, a slightly blunted leading edge, and a little trailing edge relief, PING says when the lower the center of gravity is placed, the more the clubhead wants to deflect down into the ground at impact so these changes were needed.

What I like about PING irons and wedges is the ability to customize swing weight with the tuning port, the badge is the cavity.  With other companies there is usually inconsistency when it comes to swingweight.  One club could be D-2 and the other could be D-0.  Taylormade is getting better at this since now they can change the weight on the back of the irons.  Then there is also a lot of inconsistency with the lie and lofts of sets as well.  I always check a set when I get them and PING is always dead one.  But I am biased lol

There is going to be a "Bag Drop" blog on here about the new line that will include more information and more pics, I'll post a link when that is done tomorrow.

Hmm, any update on when the fairway woods are dropping?

I have had my heart set on a Mizuno JPX800 3 wood for a while.  Today I went into Golf Galaxy to see if I could swing it again and compare it to current models.  I specifically asked for the G15 because it felt good to me last year when I swung it.  The pro brought over the G20.  Boy did that thing feel great.  I tend to research stuff before I buy it, so I go to look it up on the website, and I see the i20 is coming out in February?  And it has the ProjectX option?  That will be hard to not wait for, but I kinda wanted to have it by next week so I can start taking it to the range for my mid-February tournament.

I have a $200 Visa gift card I received for Christmas that is burning a hole in my pocket!

I kind of figured that.

Nonetheless, did some digging around and it appears it will be around the 2/7-2/9.  I actually placed a preorder for the 3w 15* with Project X 6.0.  Really looking forward to this.  Haven't purchased any new equipment since my iron set two years ago, and my 3w has been needing to be replaced for a while.
