I have had a couple of putts do 360's. But other than that, I can't really think of anything that come to mind. Feel free to share your "unlucky" moment while playing either a competitive round, or just a weekend round.

God Bless

I had a perfect low wedge shot ricochet off a 1/2" branch last week. It was flying exactly as I wanted, straight at the pin, and it just got completely knocked down by this one twig. I've never hit anything that small so squarely in my life.

I had another shot at an uphill green; it was the one really fast and sloped green on the course and I hit it to 15 feet after a drop from a water hazard; the ball just kept slowly rolling back down the slope, about 25 yards and into a bunker. I'll be having a word with the superintendent at that course about all the magnetic sand they've been using.

One time, I thought I met a PGA Tour professional on a golf forum.  Then it turned out he was a phony.  That was a total bummer.

Nothing comes to mind

Though one lucky moment:

First hole slice it into the woods, hear a loud bang, ball comes out of the woods ends up in the middle of the fairway.

Second hole slice it into the woods hear a loud bang-bang, ball comes out of the woods ends up in the middle of the fairway

LOL...yea, but it's a good thread topic. (at least)

I could probably come up with a ton of stories, but for now one in particular comes to mind.    I was playing a downhill par3 and my ball landed squarely on the plastic nut on the top of the flag stick.  It was a beautiful high shot that was coming right down on the flag...literally!!  The ball bounced high in the air over the green and into a bush and I had to take an unplayable and made double bogey.

funny side note....the nut broke off and the flag dropped to half-mast.  hahahahaha....the sticks were the kind that are thinner on the ends and thicker in the middle.....so that's why the flag stopped at half mast.  Funny stuff....it's as if the flagstick was surrendering.

I would say the time I played a new mountain course hit down on a wedge from the rough and broke my left wrist. Turns out someone goofed and there was hardly any topsoil in that area.

Played Lake Chabot in Oakland two years ago after a couple of days with rain. Hit a drive pretty nicely and watched it land in the middle of the fairway --- then never found the ball.  It was embedded somewhere in the fairway.  That's a crappy penalty...

On a par 3, I hit some part of the hole (flagstick? cup?) and the ball bounced high over the back of the green and out-of-bounds.  Still the closest I've ever come to a hole-in-one, but... it kind of sucked.

Uh-oh, that's judgemental feedback.  The proper NJF way to phrase that would be, "On a scale of 1 to 5 where 1 is minimal and 5 is maximum, how would you rate the level of your fakeness?"

Don't know if I have one single shot and maybe not unlucky, just most tense (chocked) moment.  I'm on the 18th hole, 4 over for the round, if I par or bogey, it's my lowest round ever.  I hit a perfect drive in the middle of the fairway in front of the pond, hit a solid shot that comes up just short of the green and in the fairway.  Then I chip a ball 1/2 way to the hole, putt the ball 1/2 way to the hole, putt it again 1/2 to the hole and finally make the putt for a double bogey to tie my lowest score. RAT FART!!!!

37 years of golf I'm sure I've had my fair share of good and bad breaks. I really do think they all average out in the end. Sometimes my son will hit a poor shot that gets a great bounce and he'll say wow I got lucky there. I always tell him just accept it whether it's good luck or bad because there will be shots you know you hit perfect that will end up in a bad spot so it all averages out.

If I had to pick something I guess it would be the fact I've had at least 10 balls finish inside 6 inches on par 3's but have never had a "hole in one". I've dunked 3 shots from the fairway for eagles but never had the luck of doing it on a par 3! Maybe someday!

Rancho Bernardo buddy trip playing near the lead of the multi-day event. I smoked a drive on a straight par 4 and short hopped into the big barber pole 150 marker in the center of the fairway. The pole was my aim point. Ball rockets off pole and goes super high and left, over the fence, deep in a yard, and out of bounds. Dead straight and long ball ends up OB.

Playing at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland.  3rd hole, par 3, hit my seven iron straight at it.  Flew straight into the hole and bounced out.  That's about as unlucky as you get.

Home course, 13th hole "The Tamkin" - Not an especially long hole at 436 yards from the tips but it's a stroke index 1 as the fairway is only narrow and there are water ditches running the length of the hole either side with OOB directly behind them.

Shot 1 - I play conservative and tee off with my 3W. There's a single 4mm twig sticking out of the hedge by the tee box. My ball hits it and falls out of the sky under three large trees. I thank my stars that it didn't land in the bunker and decide to hit out with my 3H to get it down the fairway.

Shot 2 - The next shot my 3h somehow hits under the ball completely, popping it almost vertically into the tree above me and it bounces further off the fairway, blocking any long approach toward the hole. I decide to simply chip onto the fairway and take my medicine.

Shot 3 - I grab a wedge and chip onto the fairway but hit it a smidge too hard. The ball lands in the fringe on the other side of the fairway. "No worries" I think, "I've got a nice long straight shot to the green now". I grab my bag and start toward my ball. I notice a mower running along the fringe toward my ball so I wave at the driver to stop. He waves back, there's a big old *crunch* noise and a half-cut-in-half ball flies down the fairway right down the middle.

Shot 4 - I drop a replacement and grab my 3H again. This time I hit it clean and it flies like an arrow! Awesome; I might not fail completely after all... Except that the ditch that runs along the side also cuts in about 5 ft to a bridge to allow crossing onto the 14th. The ball lands, rolls and goes into the water ditch.

This is the point at which I realised the golfing gods were against me so I left the ball in the ditch in disgust and went to the next hole.

I have a lot of family in the Bay Area, so I head there about twice a year, and I always try to play Lake Chabot. Very unique - love the par-6 18th!

...though, in the spirit of this thread, I slice the ball OB on my second shot just about every time I play the 18th.  Funny thing is, it's so steep downhill, I'd probably get the ball to go almost as far using either  a PW or a 3-iron.

I went to the range the week before last, even though I took it easy no significant pain occurred just a slight twinge when I swung my #4 hybrid.
