I've been playing golf since I was a kid.  Lately I've been working on some swing changes.  Finally had a chance to get the swing on tape and I have some issues here.  I don't like my backswing and my head is in a really wierd position at impact.  I'm also wondering if I'm really getting my weight through the ball or just faking it.  I'm stuggling with keeping my swing shorter as well.  Believe it or not I felt like I was taking half swings here.  Sigh.  Anyways, I play a draw and each one of these shots resulted in a draw.  1 is a DTL 6 iron shot, 1 is a 6 iron shot from the side, and 1 is a DTL 5 wood shot.

I cannot even begin to describe how much your head is moving. Get a friend to put their hand on your head while standing directly in front of you. They would have a hard time doing that with this swing. The GOOD news is that your head movement is the only problem I see. You are going past parallel, but keeping your head still will restrict your shoulder rotation and fix that naturally.

Keep your head down, keep it still through contact.

Yeah, I really hate what I'm seeing there.  I'm also a bit worried about how upright my backswing is and how much I lay it off on the downswing.  Any thoughts there?

Yeah didn't notice the red text until it was too late to edit.

ya I noticed your backswing was upright and you had a much flatter through swing. I dont know what is done about that but there is my observation.

I didn't realize I had that sort of move until yesterday.  Always thought I took the club back flat, but there you have it.  I think I have a serious issue with my head movement.  I've done that since I was a kid.  Took a lesson and was told to watch my arms go back, so I knew they were in the right place.  Ingrained it to the point I have trouble getting rid of it.  I guess I know what I need to work on.

I'm personally working on a still head right now, and this photo comparison has helped me more than anything else.  Although I don't think you look exactly like this in the back swing, you definitely do in the down swing (which I believe is faking secondary axis tilt).

I know.  I had no clue.  It had been years since I'd seen my swing on tape.  I guess ignorance is bliss.  Watching that showed me I have a lot to work on.  What's funny is I was hitting the ball fine until I saw it.  Since I've lost a ton of power and refuse to hit down on the ball.  Played in a scramble yesterday and I had no power.  Easily 30 yards shorter off the tee and 1 or 2 clubs shorter on irons.  Ball went straight, just no pop on it.  I didn't hit one shank, but I feel like I'm going to shank and won't commit to the shot and go after it.  I think I may cave in and go get a lesson.

everyone talking about your backswing being to upright is so full of crap.  Watch any episode of the haney project and look at what hank is trying to do; most amatuers come way inside and than cast it right over the top and it's slice city.  HAnk always has them try to exaggerate LOOPING  IT THE OTHER WAY which is what your swing is doing.  I agree, it is one of the uglier looking swings I"ve seen but so is Jim Furyk's  you probblyhve less work to do than you think.

Sadly I have to agree.  I booked a lesson for tomorrow morning with a guy that is all about impact and swing dynamics.  I'm going in and not saying a thing.  Then I'm going to blindly follow his advice and see where it gets me.  I'll post a follow up video in a few weeks.

That's cool. Let us know how the lessons go. I don't know if you should go in there and not say anything though.

Tell him what you think you are doing wrong, and how to fix it.

I've had lessons before, on and off over the years. And every time they want me in a certain position, it felt really really strange. Until I practiced a lot, then it started coming around.

Good luck!
