Good day 1 so far, the biggest surprise from my perspective is Garcia shooting +9. I was thinking he could contend.

Phil is about to tee off, it will be interesting to follow his progress today.

Keeping a list of "Top Things to Watch For Friday's 2nd Round of the US Open" ??

Certainly one item on that list would be the 36-hole cut, which is to the Low 60 Scorers plus any ties among the Low 60 plus any player within 10 strokes of the 36-hole lead.

As of 8:35 PM EDT Thursday June 14th, the leader is at 2-under, there's a 20-way tie for 57th place at 4-over and a total of 127 players (YEEKS!) are at 8-over-or-better.

The field should shake itself out a bit by this time on Friday evening. Still looks like it will be a crowded weekend.

I thought Sean OHare was going to do well. Of course Tiger is in the mix, I wouldn't mind seeing him win again. Of course my old dog pick is either Funk or Els. I like Els hopefully he can regain his form/focus. He is 5th in scoring averages this year. He just needs to put it together.

I can't believe that ABC -- ehhh, pardon ESPN-Disney --- would have Mike Tirico and Terry Gannon on hand, only to subject us all to none other than Chris Berman.

Berman in a golf TV booth is as bad as Howard Cosell was in ABC's baseball TV booth.

In another reality, USA would have 1st & 2nd round coverage, and Jennifer Mills would be both studio host and part-time anchor.

In that same other reality, USA would also have the early Saturday-Sunday coverage from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with NBC picking up right after.

I really was impressed by Furyk's play today... if he continues to swing the club like he did today he will win the tournament with ease.

Tiger got off to a good start today. Even though I still think he won't win he'll be in the thick of it for sure.

Jim Furyk at +1 is definitely in good shape.

Garcia got off to a tough start; it may be difficult for him to even make the cut.

Mickelson played very well in spite of his sore wrist. Even though he'll probably make the cut he probably won't contend.

I'm still pulling for Els. He was +3 today but he still could be in the hunt.

I might also add I was impressed with Dougherty, but I doubt he will be able to turn in 3 more rounds like the one he had today.

Incidentally, did anybody else feel as bad for David Toms going from -3 to +3 in just 6 holes? Maybe it's just the fact that his wife is hot that I'm pulling for him.

I got to watch a lot of the first round during ESPN's rebroadcast last night. As you can tell I'm a big Furyk fan (He grew up around 30 mins from my house.) Other than missing that stupid short putt late he'd be even. He's playing everything well as usual. He'll be top 5 at least. What's with Phil's wrist? When I first saw that brace I thought I was watching bowling.

I noticed the same thing yesterday. Berman is such a bad golf announcer. Too much schtick and too many cliches.
