Today i tried out the Callaway FTi driver at golftown on the simulator. It was really funny, last time i went there to try a driver I tried out the Nike Sasquatch (older model). I was on the same simulator both times, same swing and both drivers were taped up. I was hitting both these drivers consistant.

Fti
Straight
90-95 MPH Swing Speed
Carry: 210-220
With Roll: 230-250

Nike Sasquatch
Straight
92-100 MPH Swing Speed
Carry: 230-240
With Roll: 250-265

I find it funny how i hit the least expensive driver the best.. just found this interesting and thought id post this. Anyone else had experiences like this? where you hit the least expensive better?

I hit a cheapass $20 Acuity driver further than I hit a $100 Ben Hogan CS3 last year. It was a shame I've given that Acuity away, but it had too meny dents by then, anyways.

Im wondering if all this new technology improvements with square drivers are just gimmicks.

I would personally wait for a couple of years - I bet they work out the kinks by then.

Seems to me the FT-i IS short. I haven´t hit it myself but I´ve read peoples comments and most agree it is short. The high handicappers could get more out of it in terms of length simply because of the backspin (more carry) but faster swingers will balloon it. Just what I´ve read....

squares arent for distance, they are for forgivness. you dont see tiger hitting the new sumo2, he hits last years sasquatch. the squares arent as workable i think thats why you dont see them much on tour.

As with all drivers the FT-i needs to be fit properly to get the most out of it. Because it tends to be more spinny it is more critical to get the right shaft for your swing. Don's article at thesandtrap.com said as much.

square drivers are usually known to be shorter in distance, one of the reasons for this is the increased spin from the square head, when i was shopping for drivers i found that the square heads raised my spin by 1000-1500 rpm but of course this spin is also what gets the ball going straighter. this usually was equivalent to approx. 15-20 yards of carry.

they just had a callaway demo day at the driving range 10 mins from my hosue, so i went up there, hit the ft-i and the x-tours...very impressed with the square driver actually. didnt go as far as my PING G5 but it went so straight. i tried the 11* draw model and i could get the damn thing to cut. it was pretty sweet actually.

    • I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them
    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
