I am looking to purchase a new 3 wood. I have been using a TaylorMade "Fairway Driver" from the early 1990's, or a 15° Burner (2007), and feel it is time for a change.

The two clubs that I am considering as a replacement are the Rockstballz 15° or the 2013 Callaway X Hot 15°.

I would like comments as to their performance from the fairway, in the rough and off of the tee, as well as the general feel of the club when hitting a ball.

Thanks, in advance, for any comments you might have.

Drivers: Bag 1 - TM R11 (10.5°); Bag 2 - Ping G5 (9°),
Fairway woods: #1 - TM RBZ Tour (14.5°) & TM System 2 Raylor (17°); #2 - TM Burner (15°) & TM V-Steel (18°)
Hybrid: #1 - TM Rocketballz (19°); #2 - Ping G5 (19°)
Irons: #1 - Ping i3+; #2 - Hogan Edge  (both 4-pw, +1" shaft)
Wedges: #1 - Ping i3+ U wedge (52°) & Ping Eye 2+ BeCu (60°); #2 - Ping ISI Sand BeCu (52°) & Cleveland CG11 lob (60°)
Putters: Ping B60i & Anser 2, Odyssey White Steel 2-Ball & White Hot XG #9, Lamkim Jumbp grips
Golf Balls: Titleist Pro V1, Bridgestone B330, Callaway SR1, Slazenger Grips: Lamkin Crossline
Golf Shoes: Footjoy & Adidas; Golf Glove: Footjoy StaSof®; Golf Bag: Ping Hoofer
I love this game! :-D

I have the Rocketballz 3W.  I love it! It feels very solid.  It seems like the ball takes off even when I barely swing it.  It works great out of any lie, tee, rough, fairway.  I prefer it over my old 3W which was a Callaway Diable Edge 3W.

My buddy just bought the X-Hot at my clubs Demo Day.  He is hitting his 3W a mile.  I have not swung the X-Hot but watching him play with it compared to his old one it's not even close.  I think they are both great clubs, I don't think you can go wrong with either.  I don't know much about the specs of either one though.

The real answer is obviously to tell you to go demo both and choose which fits you best.  But that's no fun.  So let's try this instead ...

I am in agreement with the fact that you should go hit both. Even if only on a simulator at the store. You'll be able to tell at least which one looks and feels better to you and confidence is a big part of it. They'll both perform comparable to one another, but one might stand out to you. Don't rule out other brands either. TEE, Adams, and Cleveland also all make real nice 3 woods.

I use the Rocketballz Tour 3W 14.5* (Stage 1) on a stiff shaft and it's phenomenal. I suggest going in to hit both and see what works best for you. I recently tried the X Hot and liked it but it just had a different feel than the rocketballz. I hit my RBZ farther it seems and have just gotten used to it therefore my biased opinion would be RBZ. People are raving about the XHot series so far so it's definitely worth trying out. Hope that helps...

Tried the RBZ3-wood and stiff shaft a couple of times and they are not for me. Feel was odd and no good contact. I love my 3 wood (Callaway FTi and stiff shaft), play it off the tee and deck.

It is a bit strange because I play and love to play my RBZ Hy3 and 4.

Xhot no info.

If you are talking about the original 2012 RBZ 3W, I would avoid the stock 45 gr. shaft. Once I got warmed up for last season, I started having terrible hook misses. (But not with my Cally driver or irons).

You might try for the RBZ Tour model with a heavier shaft, or the RBZ Phase 2 with a 60 gr. S shaft, or Phase 2 Tour with 70 gr. S shaft.

I test-hit the X Hot 3W indoors at a golf expo, and the ball came off the clubface nicely. Has some variety in shafts, so test out the different ones.

Focus, connect and follow through!

i picked up a RBZ 3W (15 degree, stiff) a month ago. hadn't had a 3W in my bag for 20+ years, and went to the local golf shop to hit a few on the machine before pulling the trigger.

i dig the white club head, and the way it sits at address. even with an easy swing the ball seems to jump off the face with a nice sound. off the deck or off the tee it's a pleasure to hit. it's a nice addition to the bag, which gives me a little more distance (between 230 and 240) than my 5h (215 to 220).

have not hit the XHot but have heard great things.

Initially, I was over the moon with the RBZ 3 Wood. However, I am having serious issues playing it from the fairway (and I've also heard this from others). At this point, I don't even touch it, except off the tee. It IS long though. Seriously, unbelievable long, if you can hit it.

That's the direction I'm heading it seems. The xhot had that heavier feel to it when swung, like you said the options for the shafts is nice.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
