  1. 1. Is the new GolfNow rewards program fair?

Just got an email from Golfnow describing their new rewards program.

If you recall, they did away with teh old program that gave you a round after 5 bookings, then another after 10 more.

Here's the new deal:

Plus, continue to play and you can earn even more great benefits:

Par
Birdie
Eagle

I appreciate that they have given us *something*, but am disappointed with what they have decided on.

Thoughts?

Isn't this all free stuff? You get all this stuff free with no added cost to the program, right?

Correct.  Point being, it is 1/3 what it was before they did away with the program and instituted this one.

Sounds about right. I have about 1/3 the benefits I used to get from my company 20 years ago.

Nothing free about it. You pay a fee booking the first 10 times. And golfnow gets a small part of the greenfee you pay.

I can't remember last year.....what was the cap on free rounds?  I don't think I took as much advantage of the freebies last year as I should have though.

I personally like this one.  I've already booked over 25 rounds this year since I book all the golf for our happy little group.  I'll be playing a lot of free golf this year.  Since the freebies are for any "Hot Deals", if I pick and choose carefully, I should be able to play some VERY nice, high end courses for free this year.

I also like their year end customer appreciation outing for the top bookers in each market.  That was a first-rate event last year in the Orlando market and I intend to be there again this year.

You're right but once you've paid that fee ($1.99 isn't it?), you're exempt from it forever as long as you keep booking at least 10 rounds per year.

That's part of the service, is it not?

I just don't get whining about free stuff. If you (anyone) don't like the program, don't use it.

I've only used GolfNow once so far and it's still cheaper with the fee included than showing up in person and paying full or whatever the normal course fee is.

No, not to me. You first have to pay 10 rounds of golf and then you get an extra discount. Without paying first you won't get the discount.

Free is being a member of TST, you don't have to pay anything and you get a bunch of good info, tips, pics, fun etc.

On the other hand, you are free to use the golf.now program or not, nothing unfair about it. You use it at free will.

I'm just happy not to pay the additional add-on booking fees anymore. That's good enough for me. I'm a little disappointed that they don't give you the waiver if you book from a mobile device.

Not sure what you mean. I book half my rounds from my iPad......

Even in those first 10 rounds, the discounted golf price more than offsets the small booking fee. The real savings add up if you book a lot though. I've booked 26 4-somes (104 rounds) so far this year. Average savings is probably 15-20% per round. Our average round of golf is probably in the $35-$40 range. Even at the low end of both those guesstimates, we've saved over $550 in just 2 months. At this rate we'll save close to $4000 this year, and I'll get another 10 rounds of golf for free along with some other perks. Gotta say, I'm a fan.....

I once spoke with a representative from Golf Now last year and he told me that the fees aren't waived when you book from a mobile device like a ipod. I've never tested it and have always used the PC. Maybe he was wrong or maybe they've changed their rule.

Just booked Sunday's round on the iPad as a test. Fees waived. :-)

maybe they were talking using promo codes:

from their FAQ:

I’m trying to redeem my promo code through the GolfNow mobile app and it’s not working. Why?

Currently, GolfNow Rewards promo codes can only be redeemed online. We are working to enable redemption of GolfNow Rewards promo codes via GolfNow’s mobile app in the near future.

Fwiw, I don't use the mobile app. I prefer the full site, even on a mobile device. No issues at all.
