2013 - What sort of golf tournaments do you play in?

A couple questions for everyone to consider answering:

1. What sort of tournaments do you play in?

2. How many tournaments did you play in for 2013?

3. What is the field size for your typical events?

4. Best finish or how many wins in 2013?

1. I am 61 years old so most but not all events are for seniors (often defined as 50 or 55).  Most of the events are handicap events with our "club without real estate" and I play a couple flighted events sponsored by our city (Ann Arbor).

2. I played in 14 events.  12 were 1-day.  One was 2-day and one was a 3-day event.

3. Our "club without real estate" typically has around 100 players flighted into 4 flights.  The City events are about 150 (Men's Championship) and 90 (Senior Championship)

4. 2013 was a tough year.  I tied for 1st on a net basis in one event (tied for 5th gross) but otherwise was just hanging around trying to grab a skin or finish somewhere in the net money.

I am not good enough to consider any higher level state events; I would just be canon fodder for the scratch players.

How about everyone else?

Indoor Archery (Fita or USA Archery).

I need to get better to join some local club and start playing. Maybe this coming year, for fun.

If you're cannon fodder, I would be live bait !!       I started too late in life - play golf for the exercise and personal enjoyment / challenge of seeing how good I can get with the body I have left ...

Playing 100+ rounds per year is quite an achievement already!

I would say you can play the local or club tournaments without any problems, now.

Thanks for the encouragement ... I'm going to really put in more effort practicing next year (rather than playing so much) & if I can get my hcp down a bit, I would like to try some local tournaments (I've always competed in everything else I've done ... tournament bass fishing, 3 gun pistol shooting - so once I get more comfortable with golf & get a better handle on the rules, I could see myself entering tournaments - just for the fun of competition)

Played my 1st one last weekend, a two day event on Del Monte & Spanish Bay.  90% handicap event, not a serious one.  Did well on the 1st day, and crashed and burned at Spanish Bay (I have a feeling I am not the only one).   The final is being tallied but I am afraid to look at the result.   Still, me and missus had a blast.

I plan to enter select club tournaments in 2014.   If playing in tournament turns out to be  too stressful, I will go back to my usual playing for fun ways.
