Guys so I am playing the Nike vr pro cavities and this is my first year really into it on a reg basis...I have taken alot of strokes of with just hitting at the range, from around 100 to consistently around 85 or 87 and I really have the urge to try a different iron. I have a fella willing to to trade my Pro Cavities for a set of good looking Ping G 10 irons..woukd I notice a difference I know I am going back a couple years but just read great things and I like the VRS but the his hits seem harsh and the distances just seem to be very erratic sometimes ..any help on the pings would be great thanks!

G10's will launch higher and will be more forgiving.

That's what I thought ...what about the Titleist ap1 710s? Are those pretty forgiving ...

Yes those are going to somewhere between the G10's and the Nike VR pro irons.

G10's will launch higher and will be more forgiving.

This can cause problems if you have decent swingspeed. Back in 2009, I was looking to replace my stiff-shafted irons from 1994 with R-flex.

I tried both the Ping G10 and the (original) Callaway Big Berthas, which were listed as SGI irons by Golf Digest , and UGI by Maltby. But, each had a stock high-launch shaft that tended to balloon the short irons. I ended up going with the Callaway X20 irons, which had a mid-launch Uniflex shaft (between R and S).

You might want to test-hit the G10 short irons before you trade.

Focus, connect and follow through!

So of the G10 and AP1 710s which one would be the better upgrade from the Nike VRs...i know going to the G10 is a few years backwards but i am not talking about that, by upgrading i mean a more forgiving club that would last a while.

Yea I saw where the maltby factor was very high on the 710s if that means anything but it was higher

My issue with the 710 AP1 is that they are so clunky and awkward looking. My theory is that you must love the look and performance.

The 712 and 714 are better versions of the same club.

yea i guess i could wait and play mine a little longer until something better comes along or i can sell mine towards a newer set...i dont hate the Nikes i just feel like i have gotten a little better and i see people playing other irons that i feel like could help me a little more.  And from what i have read the G series (G10 or G15 more than likely with my budget) and the AP1 710s seem to be very good sets and will be a little more forgiving on the mishits than my VR Pro Cavities

If you are improving, taking lessons, etc, I'd go Ping. They are indestructible and typically maintain some resale value.

Yea i still have not decided...i really would like to hear from someone that still plays the G10s...is it worth going back a couple years for..i mean would i notice a difference in the Nike VRs to the Pings?  i dont have to have the latest and greatest, i just want to get a swing down and stick to it and maybe in a few years upgrade to something nicer but was thinking the G10s may give me a little more ball striking confidence.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
