Yes, I am afraid of having nightmares now.

@Vinsk there is this training aid out there that is basically a blue rubber/plastic wedge that you strap on your shoe that supposedly gets you to transition your weight towards the target and not towards the ball. I cannot find it now, but I was always getting pop up ads for it. Now I am just getting women's clothing and waxing ads. My wife must be super active shopping lately.

Often it’s not just weight movement that’s the cause. It can be the arms, path, plane, etc. it’s not as simple as getting a training aid. The best way to fix the shank is to figure out what causes it in the first place. I tend to hit heel shots as my miss so I feel like I’m hitting out of the toe but start the ball to the right. Works for me. It’s a conscious effort and I don’t use any training aids. I don’t like training aids because they don’t get used on the course. I use the ball mark on the clubface, video, and gc2.

@ncates00, @Carl3 Yes, as you can imagine after 30yrs of the shanks I’ve heard and tried it all. The difficultly in my issue is I shank for one primary reason but can bring in another fault at any given time, usually if I’m doing well to correct the primary...lol.

My trail elbow disappears behind me and I thrown the club hard and based on my ‘rotation of the day’ I shank it either from too inside or OTT.

I naturally introduce the hosel to the ball. It’s innate, powerful and deadly accurate. So any time I make a good shot/swing it’s a compensatory action for me. This is why when I’m on I can play very well but off...(doing what’s natural) I can desecrate the finest of golf courses.

Before getting too far ahead of yourself, take a look at the dot color of your G15 irons.  For someone who can hit a driver and a Diablo 3 (19*), 4 (22*), and 5 (25*) straight, it just seems odd to shank the shorter shafted mid irons.  Not saying it can’t happen, but based on your set makeup, you may have Pings (bought in 2011) don’t work for you, at least not anymore.

The are no most forgiving irons.  With your swing speed (100 yard 6 iron), you just need a GI/SGI you can control and gets the ball up at your swing speed.

Since you can hit Diablo hybrids, that might be a place to start.  They were SGI irons when released and a good used set has to be cheap.  I can’t picture your gapping for your length, but the XROS have similar lofts as the Diablo Edge and are really easy to hit.

What does GI/SGI mean?

I am consistent with these clubs: 915D2-160*Ping G15 4W-140*Diablo 3H-130 *Diablo 4H-115*Diablo 5H-105. Ping G15 irons 6-7-8-9 disasters. G15 PW-60. Vokey SM6 K-12-58 and M-08-54 are new and I’m not sure yet.

I think that I have an over the top swing, but I don’t slice or fade the clubs that I can hit. I get a nice high and straight shot with them.

The four club gap in the middle that I can’t hit is killing my scores.

GI = Game Improvement

SGI = Serious Game Improvement (I know it's "Super" but who becomes "super" after adopting SGI irons???)

I have another question. If I put the ball on a tee, shouldn’t that take the lie angle out of the equation? Also I am 5’6” tall if that has anything to it.

The lie angle still affects which direction the club face is pointing. And most people don't tee up their iron shots very high at all.

You shouldn’t tee up irons high. I don’t hit anything off a tee except driver. Even if I go three wood, I hit it off the deck.

I found that to be true with my Diablo 3H. I used a tee on a short par three over water. Every time I played the hole it would go left into the water. I finally realized that the rails on the sole of the club were coming into contact with the tee. I started hitting the ball off the turf and it would fly straight, right onto the green.

I am waiting for it to cool off a little bit, so I can go hit some balls and try some of the suggestions that were given to me here.

I spent 5 1/2 hours today on a 3 hole practice course. I put a head cover beside the ball and found out I am coming over the top with my irons. I spent all of my time with just the 6-7-8-9 irons mostly. I did hit my driver once and my 3H a couple of times. They both fly straight, but the irons are still a problem, except for a half dozen times that I hit them crisp and straight. I need to work on getting my swing path back to a inside out.

I guess my only thought is... What are you doing differently between your straight hitting 5h, (or 3h), and your shanked 6i or 7i?

i would think taking a few videos of your swing with different clubs might shed some light.

I’m also not ruling out the possibility that the Pings are wrong, (length and/or lie), for your 5’6” height.

I practiced again today with the 6-7 irons. I had a head cover next to the ball. I kept hitting the head cover. I hit my 5H without any problems. I also took a Titleist AP1 from the pro shop and hit that much better. My Pings are a soft R graphite shaft. The Titleist was a steel R flex. My 5H is a senior flex graphite and I hit that consistently a straight 110 yards.

I really don’t know what to do other than start fishing more. I have spent 9 hours on the range trying to correct this without any improvement. I have thrown money away on lessons over the last few years without any improvement. I’ve watched video after video without any improvement.

I used to be pretty consistent at shooting 85-90, now it’s 100-110. It is not my short game.

Charlie... bless your heart.  If you are hitting your 5 hybrid 110 yards it sounds like you're not a young pup any more.  I have played with guys 75 to 89 years old.  They can be very cagey... hitting hybrids closer than I hit wedges sometimes.  I'd suggest you go that route.  Just be consistent and accurate.

"Bless your heart" is a phrase that is common in the Southern United States. The phrase has multiple meanings. It can be used as a sincere expression of sympathy or genuine concern. It can be used as a precursor to an insult to soften the blow.

My Dad is from Tennessee.  In this case I am feeling Charlie's pain... we all will be there someday. Even Tiger.

My problem is I have a gap between that 110 yard 5H and my 60 yard PW.

Davison Michigan......I was born in Flint 75 years ago. My dad was an engineer for GM on Davison road. I caddied at a fancy country club when I was 12-13 YO. It was like “Caddie Shack”. When the Buick Open came to town I was given the week off. Their bags were bigger than me. LOL
