Chippers for a Tall Female Player

I'm a fairly new golfer and have decided to get a chipper.  I'm a tall woman at 5'10" and wondered if men's and women's chippers are pretty much the same or if I should get a men's chipper (for the added length of club) or a ladies club (for weight or ?). Can anybody tell me if there's much difference between the two?

I'd suggest that you get a chipper that fits you, though I'll also admit I can't remember ever seeing a women's specific chipper. If you're 5'10", the added length should be good, and the weight shouldn't matter as it's not like you're looking to hit it far with a chipper.

When you suggest getting a chipper that fits me, are you suggesting getting a men's chipper?  Sorry if this is a stupid question, but are there varying lengths for men's clubs (and women's clubs for that matter)?

I'm recommending that most women's clubs will probably be shorter, as you're the same height as an average American male.

So, get a men's club, since the weight won't matter much.

Just get the standard mens chipper, stock everything. Don't know that there really is much difference brand to brand. At 5'10 you are right in the wheel house of what is considered mens standard length. The shafts on all chippers I have ever seen are steel and uniflex so that won't be an issue either. Weight should not be a problem as you swing the club like a putter and never swing in farther back then 18 inches give or take.

I would recommend the chipper be similar length to your putter. If it's close to that, then you are good.

I’m more of a chipper proponent, than an expert.  

Nonetheless, I don’t see any great difference in fitting of a putter from one gender to another...and, given the similarities between a putter and a chipper, I’d expect that there wouldn’t be much in the way of difference in chippers either, solely on the basis of gender...

@JayMartry Hireko golf. They do chippers that you can choose what length shafts you want. Prices are pretty good as well.

If you're having trouble with your short game.... like a lot of us.... I'd recommend Cleveland Smart Sole. They make two - The C is 44 degrees but is more upright like a putter. It's 35" long, but I added a couple inches to it and put a long Winn putter grip on it since I use a putting stroke. I find this club great for playing bump and run type chips. However I also find myself in a situation where I need to pitch from heavy rough more frequently.

This brings me to the Smart Sole S. It's a 58 degree lob wedge with a very wide compound bounce sole. I had this made 1" longer. It's been a godsend from heavy rough in eliminating the chunks. It's also great in soft sand. I think you'd get more use out of this than the C.

I owned a few chipping clubs in my younger days. I used them for their purpose. 

Thing was, I was always removing them from my bag to make room for another club that was more important to my game. 

This made me have to practice/learn to chip with other clubs. I read up on Paul Runyon's putt/chip technique, and never worried about my chipping ever again.
