My R7 had a terrible sound at the standard weight configuration. So bad. Like a "ting" and high pitched so that it almost hurt my ears. But then I added weight to make it a heavy configuration and it sounds great now.

I currently play a Cobra Speed LD/M offset. At first I liked the sound, but I have grown tired of the NCAA Baseball game I hear on the tee box. I am looking at the Callaway Hyper X now, and love the sound of power, not to mention that it is more forgiving, better feeling, and flies about 15-20 yards farther than my Cobra. The Hyper X is loud, but it sounds like a golf club to me, not rec league softball.

i picked the ping g10 based mainly on the fact of how it sounded. the titleist 905 felt better but it didn't sound good and for me, the sound is key.

Yeah, I remember hearing the 905R's sound and being jealous of how good it sounded when struck. For me, I have the HiBore XL and I think it sounds pretty good, maybe a little loud though.

I was walking up to the driving range and I said to myself, "someone's hitting a Cleveland HiBore XL". I was right on, and I'm not exactly knowledgeable about drivers. A guy was hitting the HiBore and every shot sounded like a cannon, except he was slicing them, hooking them, hitting worm burners, and skying them off the top. Every shot sounded the same, and about 100db to boot. It's a shame because I like the looks of that driver and I do appreciate getting aural feedback when I boom one or hit a bad shot.

Love the FT-5 THUMP . . . nothing like it. 905R is great but you have to hit the heck out of it, high swing speed.

Titleist has some nice, clean sounding drivers, but Ping just has that perfect sound to them - hence the name Ping I guess...

I wish I had walked over to see what this guy was hitting the other day on the range in Florida- horrible sound- like somebody was hitting an old aluminum trash crossed with a beer can... broke what little concentration I can muster every time he hit it.

I hit a Nike Sumo 2 in a GolfSmith testing bay a while back and thought I needed NASCAR ear protection.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
