He was one of my favorites.   I remember watching the 1984 Tigers vs Padres.   The Tiger's pitching staff was able to slow his  batting average in the world series.    That was the year he led the league in hits (213) and batting averages (.351).   Against the Tigers in 1984 he had 5 hits and batted .263.

Small sample size. Only 19 ABs. One more hit and it would have been .316.

Tony Gwynn had more 4-hit games than he did 2-strikeout games.

Didn’t get to see him play that much as he was west coast and national league. But he was fun the few times it did see him like in All Star games.

Classy guy. Lived about a mile from me in Poway,Ca. It was nice to have one good player you knew wasn’t going to be traded or team hop for more money. As the story goes he wanted to stay in place for his family.

      Tale of two swings.  Swing 1: Slightly outside takeaway (hands move outside of target line) only to allow trail elbow over collapsing at P4. Doesn't take much to overdo it for the trail elbow collapse to only further exaggerate. That's death. Swing 2: Hands stay slight in at takeaway for a much better trail elbow condition at P4. This is a hard sell from an instinct perspective. More focus on un-weighting and re-weighting of lead foot to unlock a bit more mobility of hips and torso. A major flaw that creeps up often is me swinging flat footed and becoming overly armsy-collapsy as a result. Got reminded of this the hard way during my 2nd round match for club net championship. Was cruising along 2up until I made the turn. Then lost the swing for next five holes. Andy was playing good enough to capitalize. By the time I regained my swing on 16th, it was too late. Even Andy was like "That was a gift". Obviously that stings because have played well enough lately. Should have closed him out of the game comfortably with a few holes to spare. Shoulda woulda coulda. Tough lesson. Damn. P.S. I know the swings look very similar but trust me there is a difference.
