Hi, I have a question on the backswing that is more of a personal feeling: does anyone here purposely think out bending the right elbow on the backswing? Or should that happen naturally without needing to worry about it? Any suggestions appreciated. Also, I couldn't find a thread related to this, so I just started a new topic.

Look man I’m going to be blunt on a few topics.

  • You have your own topic for personal type questions like the above. I merged that topic into this one. Feel ain’t real.
  • It is completely uncool of you to have removed your videos. It’s in the rules for this section of the site, and it’s a rule so that others can learn, too. People can’t learn as well when they can’t see the video posts are talking about.
  • You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding about the golf swing. The proper way to fix things is to work on one thing at a time. Fix that, or at least improve it significantly, and move on. You cannot solve the golf swing intellectually. You need to put in the work.

At this point it feels like your interactions here have been of the taking variety only. All of the help people have given you has been to your benefit only, and normally we are all happy to have done so, but when we have to push so hard for you to have your own swing topic, then you create another topic we have to merge, then we see that you deleted your videos against the rules… it’s too much.

All we ask is that you give back a little. You can do that by:

  • Following the rules, so others can see and learn from your videos too.
  • Starting new topics when it’s a general theory topic only, not personal to you.
  • Participating in other topics outside of the realm of swing help.

We give a lot here. Free. We want you to take it. But leave a little something for others, even if that’s just following the rules.

Look, you're asking a LOT of questions, but this isn't just about theory, it's about your actual swing. So, it's really going to be much more about the work than the theory. You're not going to solve this by thinking about it more. You're going to get better at it — maybe not even ever completely solve it — by doing some work.

Do the challenge I gave you. Ideally outside, or hitting a ball at nearly full speed somewhere. See what that does. It'll be a start, regardless.

The right elbow should bend naturally, but the majority of us should be trying to stay wide with the right elbow straighter (as per the drill you were given to do).  I wouldn’t be surprised if your questions start to get ignored if you aren’t willing to do the work and post it. The folks around here tend to be generous with their time and expertise for people who are responding to their feedback and showing effort.

I know it’s been a crazy few weeks around the holidays, but let’s get that challenge done & posted so we can get into the meat & potatoes of your swing!

I had to remove ALL my videos from all social media accounts in preparation for college. I can post it after this is over.

I have posted some posts outside of swing help. I can't contribute much to the conversation as a relative beginner, but I have posted.

In all, I appreciate you telling me how my activity needs to change on this forum. I will take your advice.

I don't know that I'd agree, but I get that you felt you had a reason.

Thanks. Just talk about golf. Our perception may be off from reality, but it's our perception, so it carries some weight with us of course.

I have been doing the drills, just have trouble posting pictures and videos (which is why I took a while to post the swing). Also, thank you for the feedback. Agree that not responding to other's feedback would defeat the point of me being here.

    • Short gym set at lunch;  bench press, four sets of five, 180 lbs.   Did a few of the medicine ball / driver drill too while I was at it.
    • I took a look at a 6,300 yard fairly easy course and it was 99% distance and then a 6,800 yard more challenging course and it was 97% distance. Do you have an example of one less that 95% or 90%? Maybe I am misunderstanding something. (6,310/220) + 40.9 = 69.6. Course rating is 70.0 with a 120 slope. Less than 1% other factors? (6,804/220) + 40.9 = 71.8. Course rating is 74.0 with a 140 slope. About 3% other factors? These are more extreme: (4,698/220) + 40.9 = 62.3. Course rating is 62.7 with a slope of 101.  (7,569/220) + 40.9 = 75.3. Course rating is 77.4 with a slope of 155. So long hard courses are 97% length and short easy courses are 99% length in these examples. I am new to this so maybe I am all wet.
    • I think in fairness what he means is Tommy's chances to win PGA Tour events are fairly similar in number to Rory's chances to win the Masters. I don't think he's remotely saying that Tommy and Rory are in the same league. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I took the comment as meaning if he keeps giving himself chances to win then eventually he will win one. Rory had a thing in his head about the Masters and won anyway. Tommy has a thing in his head about PGA Tour events. They do seem fairly analogous to me.
    • Don't get me wrong, I like TF from a nice-guy-next-door perspective but I was surprised at the nerves he showed on the 2nd putt on 17th. That was unmistakably a stroke of a player who had already submitted to the writing on the wall. Honestly I would not expect that out of a veteran tour player. I would have liked to continue rooting for him but gotta see a bit more fight from him. Rory could be reasonably accused of being a head case but he is a fighter. Big difference.
    • Um no. Rory Wins PGA Tour 29, EU 19, Majors 5, FedEx Cup 3 Tommy PGA Tour 0, EU 7, Majors 0, FedEx 0 He may win eventually, but he’s not in the same league as Rory.
