As Iacas said, pics are needed, but my guess is that you are hitting rough balls on the range with a lot of grit or sand.

Ping irons are made of much harder metal

You hit more shots with your 8 - SW.

But...................there's no such things as Izumi irons. Do you mean Mizuno?

Typo Mizuno

So.... perhaps a response to the two people kind enough to respond to your first ever post? :-)

Without pictures, I would guess @Shorty is on the right track. I noticed the faces of my irons taking significant wear from hitting balls with sand/grit stuck to them. My 7-iron is particularly bad because I practice with it almost every day. I have about 15 balls in my backyard for practice, and the soil in my yard has plenty of sand and clay that sticks to the outside of the balls if it is a little wet (dew, fog, etc.). About 6 months ago I started wiping the balls off before hitting and after collecting them to hit again, and that stopped the damage, but can't undo the wear I already caused.

Okay, I'm going to throw a theory at you. As others have said, without pictures I can't say for sure.

The range I usually go to has started the practice of disinfecting their golf balls. (I nearly type "disinfecting their balls".... I decided I needed to add the word "golf", but I digress.)

Anyway, they spray huge amounts of this disinfectant on the balls before returning them to the counter where they can be picked up by the patrons and taken to a range bay. Okay, so then when I show up I take my bucket of balls and go pick out a range bay. I dump my GOLF balls into that back rubber half moon shaped thing that's near the hitting mats. (No grass tees right now, only hitting off mats.) Then I merrily go about my business of hitting shots and practicing.

Okay... still with me? Anyhow, somehow because the disinfectant on the balls makes them "sticky" they pick up a little bit of the "blackness" of the rubber half moon shaped thing they are rolling around it. What's the result of all this? .... Marks on the clubface

The interesting thing is I thought it was wear. It's actually kind of hard to get off the club face. I had to scrub the club face to get it to come off. The other thing is it doesn't accumulate on the club face very quickly. The picture I'm including shows my club face after 3 range sessions, for this club that's maybe 50 shots or so.

Anyhow, a few of us at the range were discussing this and we all found we could clean the stuff off the club face, but it wasn't easy. In a way it was kind of a bonus because it showed strike patterns. The problem being you have to really scrub to get that stuff to come off. @Dubs Is it possible something like this is happening to you?

Here's a picture.20210129_052020.thumb.jpg.9b4bd8ddd10a3ee7cadda83522d7a8d4.jpg

Oh, by the way, I only mention this because it's a "new" thing at the range I go to. Up until recently they would only wash the golf balls. The balls were dry and didn't pick up the little bits of blackness from the rubber range half moons. Now they literally spray what seems like gallons of this disinfectant on them before putting them up on the counter for the patrons. So for everyone who got new clubs this year it may seem like they are "wearing out" much faster than they would have last year when they didn't spray gallons and gallons of disinfectant on them.

Anyway, I may seem like a crazy person.... but that's the first thing I thought of when I read your post. So, like I said it's just a theory.

Try rubbing a little acetone on the club face. If it’s ball marks as @ChetlovesMer states, I will come off easily.

I admit it is not getting as much use since lockdown.
