It was pretty thick at the second cut. But the trees and water added to the difficulty I’d say. BD can hit a lob wedge out of thick rough quite well. But when he’s also got trees and water to deal with…it’s a challenge.

Yeah I think you reminded me of the argument I read about the US Open: the narrow fairways actually helped Bryson because other players not trying to smash it to the moon still ended up in the rough more frequently. Not sure it is right but interesting idea.

Agree with the difficulty added by water and trees especially. I should rewatch the US Open weekend rounds but from what I remember it seemed like he had a lot of clean looks at the pin there.
