Fresh off the high public course green fees vs. quality discussion, I have to ask if anyone else loves playing early in the morning? I find that early morning golf is the single most salient determining factor for my golf enjoyment. I love it because:

#1 Less people (or NO people in front of you)
#2 Greens are usually a bit more uniform
#3 Wind tends to be lower

I guess I like playing alone, which also happens often early in the morning.

Absolutely!!! Soon as the weather gets nice enough me and my buddies will be hitting the course on a regular basis at 6am sharp so we can get in 9 before work. We did a lot of this last year, and its a fantastic time to be out.

What's in my bag:
Cleveland Hibore XLS Monster Driver
TourEdge Exotics 2,3,4 hybrid irons
Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW
Assorted wedges, Ping Scottsdale Anser

I love the cold air with the mildew on the grass. And when your ball rolls it leaves a little trail a different shade of green.

Nothing beats standing in the fairway on #2 and it's dead silent other than some birds chirping, slightly cool air and fresh grass. Love it. I walk out in the morning to have a cup of coffee and can't get to the course fast enough.

Golf is about the only thing I can be happy about getting up at 5:30 in morning for a 6:45 tee time. That being said, I just cringe at the thought of an early tee time. I can't stand being the "dew sweepers", the rooster tail of dew that comes off the ball in the morning. I'd much rather play in the afternoon twilight rate style. You can't beat it if you are first out in the morning, you can get it done quickly, but we mostly play as a foursome and we aren't setting any record pace out there if ya know what I mean. However, I usually have to suck it and play early because the other married guys have there afternoon honey-do lists, so they have to play early.

Early morning is my favorite time to go golfing. Especially in the summer time when it is really hot out, the morning is nice and cool.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I always feel just a little closer to God in the mornings. Being outside, in the beautiful surroundings of golf course in the early morning is almost spiritual.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

I absolutely join you in this feeling.

In my opinion, there is nothing quite like driving to the golf course in the dark and walking down the first fairway before the sun is all the way up. It is like you can see the course waking up before your eyes. It is weird, but it becomes more than just a field with a little hole at the end. I struggle to get to work by 9 everyday, but you make me a tee-time for 6AM and I'm there with bells on by 5:20.

Come summer, when I have to play weekends, I will be out there for a 730 tee off at the latest in hopes of finishing, grabbing lunch, and playing again for 54 or even 72 holes in a weekend. The early morning just lets me get more golf in! Although your benefits apply too.

have you guys noticed that its harder to stop balls on greens that are wet with morning dew? the ball kinds of just skids instead of bite.

early morning golf is the best.....im usually busy in the afternoon so me and my dad are on the course by 8:30am and home by 11am so i still have enough time to do what ever it is that day ...... but for the past 3 days in a row we have been playing from 4pm and off by 6:30-7:00 we have daylight till 8pm so we can still get 9 holes after were done with the day

Early morning golf is great, the air is crisp, its nice and quiet out there, the course is pretty much empty, great time to play golf. Only problem for me is my back is extremely tight in the morning, im waking up extra early to stretch and get ready which kinda sucks but well worth it.

Love the 'honey-do' list! Never heard that term before will be using it from now on - I have such a list most evenings and weekends therefore AM golf is my prime time on the fairway. The only thing I dislike is having to wait for the greenkeeper to mow the greens!
