I had to give up golf due to back problems 5 years ago - at the "top" of my game.

Since then, I have lost 2 inches of height due to spinal compression, but have been cleared to golf again. 🙂

I have hired a trainer - with a football background and only a passing familiarity with golf.  We are working on overall conditioning.

That said, I am looking for advice.  Things to avoid in these 90 days of training and things to include.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The number one thing to avoid is getting injured! It is wise to have a trainer who can guide you. Good luck and keep us posted!

Please keep us posted on your journey.   Your rehab has peaked my interest.   My brother had a neck injury which completely eliminated his golf which was his passion.   I hope for you the best.

Work on flexibility, mobility of hips and chest/shoulders, core strength, and retain good posture. Strength conditioning in general will be good. Work on fast twitch movements.

Starting today to do the mirror drills listed in the first post. Very grateful for the 30 day drills. I have never seen the golf swing broke down into such small segments!

The fast twitch conditioning is being addressed with stretching band exercises - focusing on speed and strength.

My trainer said that we will be working on rotation next week so I am interested in how that will proceed.

I feel for your brother - I know that feeling of letting golf go. I hope he has the opportunity to take it up again somehow. My brother in law has fractured his neck twice (once as an 19 year old playing football with his friends and then again when his Tahoe was struck by a utility truck). He has to turn his head away and loses sight of the ball - and is still remarkably consistent (about a 2 handicap) at 60 years old no less 🙂

    • Day 19: worked with foam balls for a while. Going slow to make sure I’m rolling and twisting. It feels weird, which is good. Going to take more work, but I’m on the way I think.
    • Day 39 (16 Apr 26) - Back to easy swings as the lead foot was overly tender from yesterday - stuck to some easy pitches with wedges and a few 1/2 tempo swings with 6i.  Was good to slow down and work on setup and overall alignment…
    • I saved the ball and wrote the details -- "my first eagle," course, hole number, and date on it.  Maybe I should write the yardage and the club too.
    • Day 8, April 16.  Continued pelvis turn drills after work today;  I've already spent 20 minutes doing this, am taking a short break (and have fulfilled the challenge for the day) and then I'm back to it.
    • Played 9 holes tonight. Driver is hit or miss, but I haven’t practiced that at all. It was a struggle to get sequencing down for the arms and lower body. I definitely have to do my downswing wrist piece a lot or I just push the crap out of the ball. Pitching needs some work. Chipping was good, chipped in twice. Putting was fine.  Shank Counter: 2
