Forearm Brushing Against Hip, Anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

Since adding a net/sim to my home office a couple months ago, I've hit a metric ton of balls. In doing so, I think you pick up on little things that otherwise may go overlooked. For me, I've noticed that my right forearm brushes ever so slightly against my right hip area in the downswing. If I think about it, I'm pretty sure that's always been a part of my swing.

It doesn't seem to impact anything. I strike the ball very consistently, with a reliable baby draw. And my only real "miss" being a groove or two low. Yet part of me does wonder if I could be giving up some distance. Currently hit my 7 iron around 175 yards. But to put that in perspective, I play an old-ish set of blades. Which means it's a 7 iron with 36 degrees of loft. So damn near a 9 iron by some of today's standards. I'm not claiming to be crazy long. But I also don't find myself needing more distance.

So does anyone else notice similar in their swing? Particularly those with swings on the slightly flatter side, who come from the inside, and/or play a draw?

If you can't relate, what little quirk(s) do you have in your own swing that you might be curious about?

Do you have video? It’s tough to tell if feel is real.

This would be an extensive list for me.

Sounds like you’re trapping the elbow a bit. Is your miss a block?

I have video of my swing, but haven't specifically taken video to pinpoint this phenomena. As I don't think it's having any big impact on my ball striking.

It's definitely real. I think part of the reason I've noticed it more is because I hit balls wearing all kinds of stuff now. So when I have jeans and one of my bulkier EDC knives, my forearm definitely brushes against its clip.

Not in particular. Most common miss would be a little thin. After that would be a pull/hook. Then maybe a very infrequent block. But frankly I think a shank may be as likely as a block.

    • I do not follow amateur or Korn Ferry tour but this story might get me to pay attention. At age 15 to be as accomplished as he is makes me think we may be seeing a future star.  A story of him breaking out may help reinvigorate golf viewership. • Day 8: Indoor backswing work, mostly rehearsals of takeaway. Hit some balls wtih 6-iron working on adding flow, but not too Much which I tend to do, swaying too far away from target.
    • Day 55: 4/18/2024 Got to the range again today. Planned to do my priority pieces and then hit targets with irons. But after my priority pieces I hit a few drives and tugged them all hard left. .... Uh... oh boy.  So, I spent about a half hour trying to hit targets at the range with my driver.

    • OPPs, I guess I have been doing the drill incorrectly, just ignore this.  But as they say, mistakes are learning opportunities. Let’s hope I can learn from mine.
