Good point. I thought he maybe twisted his ankle when he did that, but the knee makes more sense now.

Yeah, it could have just been the ankle too. That actually makes more sense, I think. This might be an every-five-years kind of deal now with Tiger.

Yes.... We are seeing Tiger come apart right before our very eyes. I wish him the best, but I really do not see him staying on top after this...

I didn't sense any sarcasm there, though I expected to... You can't be serious.

ok.. busted. My common sense tells me that I am wrong and that he will remain at the top. But the inner competitor wishes that Duval or Mickelson would reside at #1 for a couple years..

You are comparing golfers to athletes now. John Daly wanted me to tell you that the check was in the mail.

Your response is illogical. You implied the knee surgery might keep him from being on top of his game. You were equating joint and muscle fitness with with golf performance.

My point was that people with a lot more stress on their knees come back quickly from this type of surgery, why shouldn't he? SubPar

Your avatar is illogical. All I am saying is that people recover differently from knee surgery. But to compare a golfer to a soccer player, or football player is just pure madness.

He will likely only be on the shelf for a few weeks, but then you need a couple to get sharp. If you look at the schedule he could have waited until after the Players, but then he only gets 4 weeks off before the US Open. That might cut it a little close if there is any kind of setback.

If I recall correctly, he made his last return from knee surgery at Torrey Pines and won. Granted this will be the US Open.

You must be "special needs" person. Good luck in golf and in life.

If it makes any difference, a friend of mine who plays poker for a living had minor hand surgery resulting from a basketball injury. He should be back checking his hole cards within 2-3 weeks barring any setback.

Tiger has had positive results from his previous knee surgeries, so I'm fairly confident he will be in contention at Torrey Pines.

Totallay agree - second in the Masters a week ago. A few missed putts a few weeks back. He failed miserably in his attempt to win ten consecutive tournaments. AND - no majors in 2008.

A bleak year and obvious signs that his career is in decline. A great shame - he was a promising player..........

So now you are picking out "special needs" persons. I think instead of getting into it with you, I will simply stop replying and hope that at your elder age you can live with yourself and your golf game. Oh! I will also report you to Iasacs....

Good Day

Not much of one, really. They've all been arthroscopic.

I would think that three operations in less than a decade on the same area would be cause for concern, indicating ongoing weakness/vulnerability. It could be congenital or it could be caused by some kind of trauma - maybe impact, in the case of a knee, and it could have been some time ago. My father's problem (cartilages effectively destroyed) was caused by jumping out of aeroplanes with nothing more than a WW2 parachute to break his fall. The problem didn't manifest itself for more than 10 years but ultimately led to him being unable to play golf at all.

Arthroscopy may be a pretty routine, low-risk procedure of itself but 'arthro' means 'bone' and nothing to do with bone should be brushed aside. Cartilage problems indicate trauma and a cartilage is not something you can blithely do without; it's the thing that stops bones rubbing directly against each other and causing more damage, somewhat like a bearing in machinery. Yes, soccer players and other athletes recover from cartilage surgery incredibly quickly - they are young (in their 20s) and fantastically fit. But the fact of surgery means their playing days are numbered. They may be numbered in years but the firm indication is that they will not go on as long as others who suffer no problems (often hard to find, these days, but there are a few). I fully expect Tiger to be firing on all cylinders astonishingly quickly after his surgery and to do well. Even if he wasn't on all cylinders, he'd still win events. But the race to pass Jack's record as fast as he can is now on, in my opinion.

arthroscope is not a long injury. AFL footballers have been known to have the surgery and return 2 weks later.

Arthroscopy isn't an injury at all, it's an investigative process. The injury could be anything from a bruised cartilage to arthritis and require treatment ranging from ultra-heat to bone surgery. the recovery time depends on the extent of the injury.

Of itself, one procedure in isolation indicates little or nothing; three on the same area indicates something but it's difficult to say what that 'something' is.

Tony Hawk, pro skateboarder, had ACL or MCL (cant remember) surgery and was back skating half pipes in 3 weeks. All people recover at different speeds. I had a friend in high school who tore his ACL and had to wait 3 months before he could run full speed.

I just glad it is not his back or neck. the knees can be fixed and most people that have knee surgeries dont have to go back for more.

I just do not see him breaking Jack's records. Way too much Karma that goes along with breaking records these days. Before you know it there will be an article in some backwoods Kentucky paper claiming that Billy Joe was at the store buying ointment for his wife (who also happens to be his sister) and out of the corner of his one good eye he noticed Tiger Woods shaking hands with Barry Bond's former trainer. And from this day forward the record will be tarnished..... Good Ole USA.
