Best Way to do a Blind Draw for Golf Games?

Recommended Posts

So, what is the best way to handle playing golf games when you have 7 people (4 v 3) instead of 8 (4 v 4)?

You can do closest to pin and skins.  Even with a small group you can do longest drive.

Two common approaches:

1. The team with the threesome counts one player’s score twice, rotating the double scorer among the three players (A, B, C) so each scores twice for 6 holes.

2. Choose a player from another team and use that player’s score for their team and also the missing player.

The second approach is tough with two teams since the “blind” player is competing directly against himself. In a larger field the player still competes against his team but the effect is less.  The rotation method works best when all the 7 players are fairly evenly matched (e.g., all are 3-6 handicaps). Rotation fails when the handicaps are spread and the missing player is the “A” player or the “D” player.

Fun game to play is a scramble of X players but the best shot of each spot gets a point and the worst looses a point. You always play from the best ball (you vote for the best one) and decide witch is the worst (also voting). Holed putts that are tied, award 0 points.

Of course at the end of the round, the player with more point wins. If different handicap players are playing, then you can give starting points to the highest indexes or spread those points thru the round to keep the leaderboard more entertaining.

If 7 players in the same group are not allowed, you can play 4 in one group and 3 in the other.
After 5 holes is time to switch groups, the 4 players with more points are grouped together and the bottom 3 get together in the other group. Same thing on hole 10 and 15 to finally get together the 4 leaders  playing for the trophy and the other 3 playing for the consolation price.

Set a rotation order to use scores from the team with 4 players,
Player A - Holes 1-6
Player B - Holes 7-12
Player C - Holes 13- 18
Player D No Scores

OR
Player A - Holes 1- 4
Player B - Holes 5- 8
Player C - Holes 9-12
Player D - 13- 16
Then One Score from Player A Hole- 17
and One Score from Player B Hole- 18

Use a Score from any Player from Team with 4, for 17 & 18 as an option.
