I guess I'm an oddball here, but I can identify the Asian players at a distance as easily as I can tell Montgomery from Perry or Goosen or Els. And I can say their names.

I don't watch each day of the PGA tour and I can still tell who is who. Why even bother bringing the mexican subject up? It has nothing to do with this topic. I'm sorry that I have an opinion on the Asians....

Funny... it's not the color of the skinny nor the size of their eyes i look at when i watch the PGA, LPGA, or the guys i got somed up with on sat morning. All i look at is their swing and ball contact... at which point i start to put them in different class categories... Hacker, bogey, single, pro, super-pro, and tiger... i guess i'm a skill-cist?

Uh....what was even remotely recist in that post? That term gets thrown around WAAAAAY too much in this country.

Exactly. It drives me nuts when the first thing that gets brought up when there is an arguement is that somebody's racist. You can't have an opinion anymore without being called racist

Kudos to the Asian golfers. Right now it seems like they are working the hardest and are winning.

What you thought was a "hint of racism" in my first post was really a strong sense of pride of my fellow Asians and their accomplishments.

While I don't think you meant anything by your comments, I do believe there are many whites in this country who mistake a minorities' pride in his culture as "being racist". Maybe it's the by-product of all the affirmative-action going on in the US. I don't know. I do know that I am proud of my Asian heritage and the accomplishments of my fellow Asians on the pro golf tours (except for the Champions Tour, but wait til Tiger gets older). Anyone who thinks that's racist is sorely misguided....Some posters in this thread just don't get it....

+1.

Agreed, my friend. Like I said earlier, some posters in this thread simply just don't get it....

To be honest, I can't stand all these Asian golfers comming in (espicialy in the LPGA) there seems to be a different South Korean girl in the lead each day that I've never heard of. I wouldn't even know if that person has won before becuase all their names sound the same. I really hope the PGA tour doesn't get that invasion that the LPGA got.

2 points: First: Tiger IS Asian. Everyone knows he readily identifies with his Thai heritage more than any other race (yes, he is an American, but he counts himself as an Asian).

Second: Look at the top 10; 6 of them are Asian. That is a dominating performance. Before the year is over, there WILL be more Asians in the top 10. There is only ONE american in the Top 10. She has had her chances but keeps falling by the wayside (ex. US Open a couple of weeks ago).
two points: Tiger is not 'Asian' any more than I am German or Scottish. The Asian ladies doing well on the LPGA tour may be the result of a fierce work ethic and tremendous family support. I see evidence of that every day at ranges and golf courses in LA. The young Asian players work hard at their game and always have very evident active family support.

Trust me, that list will get longer as time goes on. That list will replace the Smiths, Johnsons, Walters, etc.

Why? A reporter at a LPGA event several months ago observed that there were Asian LPGA golfers on the putting green and driving range until the course had to shut off the lights. However, not a single non-Asian LPGA pro was anywhere to be found. Non-Asian LPGA pros may have the modeling contracts and fun lifestyles, but the Asian LPGA pros have the heart, dedication, and drive to do what it takes to WIN. And they are....

Well i dont want to say people here are racist, but I still dont get it why people even care or have to say things like this post. Who cares who they are, or where they come from or what they look like, geesh. Once again someone like me neve once even thought about these players in that way, just all people living on this planet and I dont divide it up.

Well, that is an excellent question that deserves an equally excellent answer. I'll do my best to explain this as professionally as possible.

I started this post as a tribute to my fellow Asian brothers and sisters' success on the professional golf tours. The intent was not one of racism, but of simple pride of heritage. However, some posters (or posts) truly believed that my post was one of racist thought and tone. As a minority who was born in this country, worked hard to get where I am in this country, and will most likely die in this country, I am proud to be an American. However, as a minority, I have seen, witnessed, and personally been subjected to racist actions ranging from as subtle as a glance to as direct as a physically assault. I am proud of my Asian heritage and how it has defined me. I am proud of the achievements of my fellow Asian brothers and sisters (professionally and personally). That is why people like me care enough to write a post that demonstrates my pride and exalts the achievements of my fellow Asians. Perhaps if I grew up in an Asian country, I too wouldn't care about or say things like I did in my post. Once person's pride in heritage could be misconstrued as another person's racism. In my opinion, I think some of the responses may have been the result of all the affirmative action that goes on in the US. There may be a simmering resentment in response to the underlying tension that has grown out of the situation. For the record, I don't believe in affirmative action. I do believe the most qualified person should get the job or promotion. I sincerely sympathize with all the non-minorities who where adversely affected by a well-intentioned idea that was poorly implemented. Until the racial tension subsides, a person's pride in his heritage will most likely still be identified as being racist. Learning to see things from the other sides point of view is the best way to remedy this situation. Hope this answers your excellent question about my post.

Tiger calls himself "Cablinasian", not Asian. Caucasian, Black, Asian.

If I was Asian, I would be embarrassed by your statements. Your like an Asian Jesse Jackson LOL.

Asian Pride!!! No different than saying White Pride (KKK)!! Right?

It has nothing to do with your heritage. It has EVERYTHING to do on how you came off towards other people. Your forcing your heritage down everyones throats, saying every PGA and LPGA tour player will be replaced by Asians because you say they are more dominate. I am 100% White and I think the "white" people, in general, are dominating the Tour. If I said that, everyone would call me a racist, just like they are calling you. Your actions are the reason people can be racist and discriminate toward other races. If you act like an a$$hole, you will be treated like one, regardless of your skin or ethnicity. White people are held hostage by this type of BS all the time. Anytime anyone says anything about somebody else, and that other person is of another race, he is deemed racist by that group. GROW UP!!!

Oh and when Kelly Tilghman, of the Golf Channel, made that remark about "lynching" Tiger in an alley, it was deemed racist by the BLACKS!! I never heard one asian crying out injustice.

Yes... players of Asian heritage are some of the best of the game, of course Tiger being in the running for the best of all time with Jack.

It's golf...I really don't care who goes out and takes a win, they deserve it. Gotta love the competition!

That being said...hey...Anthony Kim just won, that and 50 cents gets you a cheap cup of coffee.

Man...can everyone get over where someone is from???? The tour pros don't seem to care.

PS. Big Anthony Kim fan...stopped being a immature party hound and knuckled down and has won twice at a young age, practice makes perfect (bullspit), perfect practice...makes perfect.

Bull. He's half and half, and he doesn't identify with one over the other. He's been pretty political about all of that. Make your point without making things up.

Tiger's also an American, through and through. So the people making that point can't be dismissed as easily as you've dismissed them. He knows his heritage, but he doesn't side with that over his "American"-ness. I'm also calling bull on the number of negative reps you've gotten from people. I haven't seen anything as "racist" as a lot of people seem to think. Is it necessary for this discussion to continue?
