wie is one over after 15, pretty good, when she gets her chance, she is going to bitch slap (with great golf) all those lpga golfers who made pissy comments about her

They will beat their swords into golf clubs and their spears into putters. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Old Tom Morris 2:4

Yeah, Wie is tied for 82th place after hole 16, she's doing a lot better than I expected.

anyone notice how BORING this tournament is?

now that they're showing the first round of WGC on the golf channel is amazing the difference in quality

I know every tournament is important but how the hell do people actually watch this tournament?

I can honestly see where they are coming... I think Wie is overrated but thats just me... but to miss a major to play a minor minor PGA event is a slap in the face to the LPGA

they need every star and all the press they can get

Not sure of this, but I don't think she qualified for the British Open, that's why she's playing in Nevada.

+1 and T77 after the first round. Solid, I think. I hope she does it again tomorrow and makes the cut. How sad/ridiculous/funny would it be if she makes the cut but doesn't get to play on the weekend because of the new rule? Also, I wonder what the response will be from the LPGA players and personnel if she makes the cut.

Yeah, I caught time with both of them today and I just about fell asleep when Michelle wasn't being shown in the Reno-Tahoe Open. In fact, during the tournament they actually zoomed in on two girls who fell asleep while watching from the rough (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm almost certain it wasn't the Bridgestone tournament).

I've always been a Wie fan, I hope she keeps this up. Firmly in the middle of the pack after round 1. Not too shabby! Up and down day with two bogeys, two birdies, two bogeys, birdie. Let's get rid of some of those bogeys my dear.

She ended up with 73. Let us see how she does today. Then we can evaluate her performance. When Annika played at the Colonial, she shot 71 the first day, I believe, but followed it with a 74 and had no chance to make the cut.

Well looks like David Duval had a lousy round.

Edit: Just noticed that the projected cut is even, so Wie needs to get at least one stroke back today.

For obvious reasons, we tend to focus discussions about Michelle Wie on issues of gender and/or hype. But Iacas's insistence (in the other Wie thread) that the haters wait ten years or so before making ultimate judgments about her decisions and career trajectory reminded me - SHE'S 18! I guess it seems like she's been around for so long (and she has), she ought to be older.

Anyway, if she were to make the cut or really even be around the cut line this evening, that's quite an accomplishment for an 18 year-old. Certainly there have been teenagers do that before, but it is still an impressive accomplishment for a kid, male or female. I hope she does it.

Well, it's not the all-star team or anything, but consider this: among the players on that list there are at least 24 PGA Tour wins, 326 PGA Tour top tens, and 17 Nationwide Tour Wins. And a major champion.

Of course, guys like Duval Williamson, and Maggert skew this rather silly stat (and I didn't count everyone, just fairly noticeable names), but it's not like this field is just a bunch of pretty good players from around Nevada.

And one more item (goodness, this workday is slow): she's going to have to make more birdies today. The online leaderboard has the projected cut at E, but you gotta think that's going to get a little lower. I'd bet she's in for sure if she shoots 69, probably if she shoots 70, and gonna need some help if she shoots 71.

Michelle is +3 after 7 holes today. She needs to be -3 to make the cut projected to be even.

I'd rather see her win the British Women's Open than be tied for 92nd on a nonfullfield PGA

A quintuple on 8 (her 17th). If she doesn't gain something back on the final hole, she can proudly say she bested about 4 players. What a disaster.
