She won the U.S. Women's Publinks, let's be fair about that. The equivalent on the men's side goes to The Masters every year. Be fair: she's won SOMETHING, and she did at the age of 13.

Touche, I did miss that one. Overall though, I guess I just think that if she wants to challenge the men's tour one day thats great but just take steps, and win some LPGA events first. That's just my opinion though and I'll stick to it but I'll just agree to disagree on this one.

She can fix that by going to tour school and getting her card. Hmmmm.......I guess team Wie is above that.

She chose not to try for her card this year because she plans on finishing school. If she was not going to play a full schedule this year, there was no point in trying to get her card. If the LPGA had not had an age limit, she would have been a full member in 2007 based on her performance in 2006. In all likelihood she would not have rushed back in 2007, playing in tournaments before she was physically ready. She would have probably done well enough to keep her card for 2008 if she had been able to fully rehab and play in more events.

It's unfortunate what happened this weekend. I blame her for not signing the card, but how does the scorer let her leave the table without a signature? She was 1 shot off the lead when they announced the DQ. Isn't that something they should have caught immediately? I'm not saying she would have won, but she was playing great and likely would have had a nice check that would have counted towards a position on the money list and a possible card next year.

Mickey Mouse isn't real. Fiction/real?

Why do you want to potentially ruin both physically and emotionally a young female golfer who could be a star on the LPGA.

You want to do this so you can have some eye candy? For your entertainment?

Do you assume the risk if Michelle is harmed?

Maybe the Wei's should have had a boy child to compete on the PGA?

There is a huge difference between sucks and overrated.

Now that she is healthy again she has shown that she can play on the LPGA Tour. Unfortunately due to injuries last year and a bone headed mistake this weekend she will not be able to play many more times on the LPGA Tour this year. She needs to compete to improve her game. Why not test it against the guys? She is not going to win. She probably won't make the cut. That said, there is nothing wrong with testing yourself against better players. Even if she finishes dead last she can still use it as a chance to better herself.

I watched the Golf Channel update this morning there were some interesting views on Wie

Richards S Johnson said that there were many players on the PGA Tour who resented Wie playing, especially at the Reno Tahoe as a sideshow, as there are many players who are desperate to earn money and keep their card- they view Wie as deprieving them of a legitimate place in a bona fide tournament.

However, interestingly, Fred Couples said that he would have preferred Wie to play in the Bridgestone World Championships, as he is a Bridgestone player and it would add extra publicity to the tournament and help with gate receipts et cetera.

I don't think Wie should be playing as it devalues any tournament to have somebody from a different tour and gender competing in an exhibition style. In addition, it devalues her own tour and her as a person, as some could view it as making a statement that I am too good for my female colleagues and the Ladies tour.

In this era of equal opportunities etc, if Wie can cross the boundary to play on the mens tour, can a man cross the other way ( what about John Daly for arguments sake ) and play on the Ladies tour??

For the record, had Wie not received/accepted the exemption into the RTO, it would have gone to a local amateur. So the spot wouldn't have been filled by a professional...

You're assuming that "competing" is what she hopes to get out of this. Seems like a silly assumption to make. Maybe she's just looking to use it as a learning experience, in which case only she could tell you if she "succeeded" or not.

There is a huge difference between sucks and overrated.

Word.

That said, there is nothing wrong with testing yourself against better players. Even if she finishes dead last she can still use it as a chance to better herself.

Right. If you're an 18 handicap and you use some of the logic employed by others, I guess you should never play with a 9 handicap and certainly never a scratch golfer. You might not compete against them, but if you don't learn anything you're an idiot.

Richards S Johnson said that there were many players on the PGA Tour who resented Wie playing, especially at the Reno Tahoe as a sideshow, as there are many players who are desperate to earn money and keep their card- they view Wie as deprieving them of a legitimate place in a bona fide tournament.

Wah wah wah. I'm so tired of the PGA Tour whining.

The top 70 or whatever guys won't even be at that event. So right there, there's 70 more spots opened up. So Wie is taking one of 70 extra spots? Plus, I think the PGA Tour has too many exempt players anyway. If it were up to me, I'd cut it to the top 100 or even the top 75 or 80 players to keep their cards. 125 is too many.
I don't think Wie should be playing as it devalues any tournament to have somebody from a different tour and gender competing in an exhibition style.

It doesn't de-value it any more than inviting someone who will only be there two days and who isn't a "name" that people recognize.

And since she's not got a gambling, drinking, smoking, quitting, or cursing problem, she certainly adds more value to the tournament than John Daly.
In addition, it devalues her own tour and her as a person, as some could view it as making a statement that I am too good for my female colleagues and the Ladies tour.

She can only play so many times on the LPGA Tour. It's not like she's spurning all her invitations to the LPGA Tour.

In this era of equal opportunities etc, if Wie can cross the boundary to play on the mens tour, can a man cross the other way ( what about John Daly for arguments sake

Oh for goodness sakes. I'm not entertaining that stupid argument again.

For the record, had Wie not received/accepted the exemption into the RTO, it would have gone to a local amateur. So the spot wouldn't have been filled by a professional...

Indeed, sponsors get to hand out invitations to whomever they please. In this case, in an

opposite field event, it probably makes sense to the Reno-Tahoe people. Good for them. Sure beats inviting Kenny G.

Whoa whoa Iacas, Kenny G has game! lol

In all seriousness though, I don't see anything wrong with challenging yourself. Even if she doesn't make the cut, a lot of people will be tuning in to watch her succeed or fail. It's a win-win situation for her. If she gets cut, she wasn't supposed to be able to compete anyway. If she makes it, then she will get even more publicity than ever.

Plus, I think the PGA Tour has too many exempt players anyway. If it were up to me, I'd cut it to the top 100 or even the top 75 or 80 players to keep their cards. 125 is too many.

By the way, somewhat off topic, but I totally agree. The inflated number is just a form of incumbent-mediocre-player protection. Let them fight it out with the hot young talents that must suffer through the horrors of Q school.

Anyway, I have no problem with Wie playing the RTO. I think it's not excatly the greatest way for her to prepare herself for her own Open, but she and her counselors obviously disagree, so more power to her. I hope they're right.

Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
