I think I would putt just as horribly with a SC than with the teardrop that I picked up on clearance years ago, cut off and re gripped to accommodate my lack of height.

I'm in the market for a new putter, and lots of people say to get a scotty cameron are these putters really better and worth the money or are you just paying for the name.

As stated in other posts, a putter is very personal. One man's meat is another man's poison, so to speak. Who's to say what a putter is worth to any one individual?

Having said that, if Jerry Kelly can win $1.1mil at a PGA event with an off the rack $69 Cleveland Classic 3 putter why should we pay any more than that on a $5 nassau ( http://www.putterzone.com/2009/04/pg...69-putter.html ). It's the Indian not the arrow !!!

I'd feel like a moron three putting with a scotty

I was thinking the same thing!! I'm glad you said it. There would be nothing worse than spending all that money...having all that pressure to do well....then 3 or 4 putt. I'd go jump in a lake and drown myself.

Even Tiger 3-putts with his Scotty.

It happens.

The real question is whether SC putters would be so highly valued among golfers if the MSRP on one was $69....

If the qaulity of the putter was the same it dont see why not. Perhaps it would lose popularity with the crowd that tries to buy their games off the rack, but i imagine it would hold the same value amoung better players and touring pros.

I didn't read all 23 pages but the thing I always noticed about the SC putters is the resale value. They hold their value much better than the other putters I have seen.

hey guys,

I'm not sure if you decided to get the detour or not, but I have one and really like it! I went to a Golfsmith and hit most of the putters they had, rolled it in every time with the Detour and bought it immediately.

Only problem i've found with it so far is that its pretty huge. I picked it up used with no headcover and initially looked for a generic headcover so that no one would see it in my bag at the clubhouse and help themselves to it. Unfortunately, its next to impossible to find a headcover that fits it other than the bright orange one from Scotty.

What's in the Bag?

For me hell no! However Its your own personal preference if you truly feel that it is worth it than that's your choice.

if I have said it once I have said it a million times. When it comes to putters its feel and confidence after that its all the same.

you have to feel confidant when your standing over that putter. and when you strike the ball you have to like the way it feels and the weight of the club when you stroke it.

beyond that all putters are the same. the only real diff is weather its a conventional putter a long putter or a gut putter.

You have to decide for yourself. if it takes a putter that expensive to give you confidence and you like the way it feels and you are willing to spend that money then go for it. Personally I get enough feel and confidence in my XG white hot saber tooth.

a good thought but why not get a putter that you will keep for the rest of your life instead of one that you would want to sell down the road. If you are already thinking about selling your putter before you buy it that's not a good sign.

I got my Bettinardi for 80$ ~ and it is the same quality as a Scotty. I could not even get a low end Scotty for 80$ shipped to my house. I've tried Scotty Newports and I could not tell you the difference in feel or quality between my Betti and a Scotty.

I think everyone has their own putter preference, you shouldn't let money, value, resale affect that.

My friend putts with a old old Ping putter that's worth nothing but he makes great putts and he loves it. For him, the worth is: Priceless.

The worth should be in the eyes of the man holding the club. If a guy buys a 300$ Scotty and can't make a putt but can make sinks all the time with a 20$ noname, that noname putter is worth much much much more to him than a Scotty.

But as a collector's club, Scotty's hold great value.

Would someone explain what "quality" a Scotty Cameron has that a Bettinardi or Ping putter lacks?

Uhm, duh, it says "Scotty Cameron" on it.

Geez, some people, I tells ya... On a non-sarcastic note, who cares? I've seen some modern art sell for millions when I wouldn't pay five bucks for it. Some people see value in some things. Others don't. That's what makes us different and what keeps life interesting.

I'm just curious is all. I've never even seen one and I have basically no basis for comparisons. Is it just perceived value? I think that it's valid to ask whether SC putters would have ever gotten as popular and revered if they had debuted on the Dick's sale floor at $89.

My thought is that they're, what, milled or cast hunks of steel. Certainly SC doesn't have the market cornered on super-special stainless steel grades and probably doesn't have some sort of secret casting process that's super-expensive and just right for making putters, you know? I see a lot of people claiming that their "quality" is the highest, but I don't know what that means.

I'm just trying to learn :)

Just think a Toyota vs. a Lamborghini

Supply and Demand. There is a small supply of Premium putters, and there is a HUGE demand of Scotty's. Therefore he can price them at 300$ and still sell it faster than hot cakes. Other premium putters have the same or maybe even better quality does not have nearly as much demand as Scotty's. Therefore they must price them lower in order to keep them from building cobwebs in the warehouse.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
