I brought my scotty newport 2.5 this year and it is fantastic, the best putter ive had,ive had a few odyssey putters, but the scotty (to me) is that bit better...and if looked after,it will last years,so its a win,win move,i say go for it..and i swear to god my first ever stroke with it was a 20 foot birdie...

Which putters are you thinking of that won't last years? I play with a couple of blokes who use Bullseye putters that are over 40 years old. Same with Ping ansers. SC putters aren't going to last longer than any others. All putters will last a lifetime.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

The irony of my comment 2 years ago...I traded that Yes! for a SC. Then I bought another SC...and then another.

I love my SC Bullseye Blade the most. However, the Studio Stainless and Studio Select Newport 2 putters were excellent.

I switched to a Scotty just last year from a Ping anser ........ the Scotty won me over with craftsmanship and most importantly feel, after my first round using it, I thought to myself, I don't think he charges enough for them lol

Yep, was worth every darn penny. I made the switch as well from Ping Anser and as of right now, will never get rid of my Scotty. I love the feel, setup, and consistency I get with my SC. I have definitely cut strokes off my my game. How many, hard to tell, probably 2 -3 strokes per round. I think the important thing for me right now is the SC has instilled confidence in my putting game. I stand over every putt thinking I am going to make it. Of course, I don't my every putt, but that is the feeling I have, and that is something I never felt before with any other putter.

From a pure quality of materials/construction perspective I'm sure they are overpriced. That being said, they are incredibly nice. For me I guess they are worth it as I just today stopped into the local golf shop and picked up a Newport 2.5. I've been playing with the same Ping Pal4 putter for the last 10+ years and decided it was time to try something new. I spent a good hour or so playing around with all the different putters at the local store. Lots of nice ones out there, the Ping Redwood and Rife models really stuck out but the one that felt the best was the Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5.

$300 is a lot for a putter, but as others have said, you use your putter a lot and it's probably the only club that has a good chance of still being in my bag 10 years from now so I think it's worth buying whatever putter appeals to you most and that you hit the best with.

I just wish it came with something other then the ugly silver head cover! I mean really, silver? Couldn't we have a nice black one? :)

They only had 2 of the California series and I didn't really like them as much as the SS series. They had about 40 Studio select models on display though so plenty to choose from there....I'll get used to the ugly headcover I suppose.

I have some good news for you. You don't putt with the head cover. Although I suppose for those of us with brittle confidence related to the aesthetics of our equipment it might undermine how we play.

Perhaps Tiger should ditch the dodgy headcovers and get some serious sober ones in black, to match his new mood of contrition? He'd surely play better? Personally I play with a set of generic headcovers so all of them match and the originals don't get lost or worn. I'm a mediocre player. Which headcovers should I be using to improve my game? ....or should I just get out of the damn pro-shop and onto the practice ground?

Yeah, I'm really not that concerned about the headcover...mostly just being facetious. It is ugly though... ;)

Scotties are more than just a putter. They are a status symbol. Just like wearing your best looking outfit out to play golf. It makes you feel good about yourself so, you then play better.

I got a Scotty Cameron putter and won the lottery! Plus I hear the CEO of Ping kicks babies.

I'm definitely satisfied with my Newport 2, after breaking it in for nearly a year. The milled face is absolutely wonderful, which is what I got it for. At first when I got it I wasn't used to the open look at address (sole draft angle), but the better I get at golf, the more I appreciate an open look. Anything else makes you block the club through the shot instead of releasing it freely. I hated the red cord grip and silvery velcro head cover. I replaced the grip with an ugly and squishy black one from golfsmith, threw 10 grams of weight at the butt end of the shaft to lower the swingweight a tad, put my old headcover on it and it all feels a hell of a lot more comfortable.

Why do people think these are so great and why do so many people have them? how could you buy these putters for $300? i know they are titliest putters, and i am in love with titliest, but i just don't understand it.

There feel isn't even that good. to me all odyssey putters feel 10 times better.

they do look good but that is definitely not worth $300.

So my question is why do people think these are so great and why do so many people have them?

Do we have to do this again?

Why do some buy $400 drivers, $200 bags, $45 balls etc... This is a pointless discussion. You buy a club because a) you like it and/or b) you like the name of the brand. I love the feel of my putter. I don't see how your experience with a club is relevant to anyone else.

Why do people think these pay way too much for anything? Because they like them, it fits there game, and it gives them confidence.

Nothing more needed, I hate the soft feel of odysseys. Yet I love the high toe, aircraft aluminum insert, and feel of my scotty cameron.

It's very subjective. I might like the feel of my odyssey more than other putters, but for some my putter may be too soft for them e.c.t.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
