I have been racking my brain trying to think of a career that allows more time for golf. Can anyone help me out? Does anyone have a career that allows them to play golf multiple times per week?

I work a 9 day fortnight which means that every two weeks I get three round of golf per weekend. Other than that you could try teaching for unlimited golfing time during the summer, though it makes paying for the golf more difficult!

I think many a career can lend itself to playing more golf. It all depends on your schedule. I play a couple of times a week in the morning around 7:30AM. I walk and play 9 and can do it in about an hour and 15 minutes. That puts me at getting to work around 9AM. I wear my work clothes to play and don't have to worry about showering. Various things can make playing more like this easier or harder (like having to wear a suit to work). You could also look into playing on your lunch break, but how flexable your work schedule is will dictate whether or not squeezing a round in at some point during the day is possible. Family obligations will also impact upon your ability to play more. When the days are longer you could also look into playing nine after work, but that's where family obligations can become more problematic. I had pretty much quit playing after I got married. It wasn't a conscience decision but rather my priorities had changed as my life changed. Now my kids are older and I began playing with them, and so I took the game back up. I now make the time during the week for playing 9 once or twice and weekends with the kids. I'll also get up early on saturdays when the family takes the opportunity to sleep in and I'l play 9 or 18 with a friend. All in all I can usually get in 1 or 2 complete rounds of golf pretty much every week by managing my time and working golf in around my schedule.

I was talking the other day with the the golf sales associate at my local chain sporting goods store. He had worked as a sales rep for Sun Mountain and Ram (back when they were a top brand) and said that he played a lot and didn't pay a greens fee in 40 years! The fact that he is probably around 70 and working in a chain store for maybe minimum wage would be an indication it isn't the best paying work in the world.

Retirement seemed to help me with that Of course, it doesn't pay as well

Well I worked 30 years as a police officer, retired at 3/4 pay and play 2-3 times a week. The only drawback is that you are old before the golf is easy to schedule.

I would think any outside sales position will work better than most. You can make your own schedule.

Teacher's get the summer off, Firefighters also have flexable scheduals. they can work 24 on 24 off, 24 on 48 off if they want and can find someone else to rotate with. they also can retire after 20 years with a pension.

You could always get a job (full time or part time) at a golf course. However, some allow their employees to play more than others. I played on one where i saw a member of the grounds crew with a chainsaw, some rakes and his golf bag in the back of his cart.

Teacher, and then the school golf team coach. My coach didn't even teach us but got to play for free for 5 days a week, and at every course we played.

I am a high school chemistry teacher, and if I get the asst. golf coach position next year, I get discounted country club memberships, and can play more cheaper.

Teachers don't make a lot of money, but I only "teach" 3 hours 40 minutes per day, 180 days a year. So, for the amount of time I actually work, I get paid really well.

The past two summers I caddied at a country club with many members who are high up at prestigious business firms, and a lot of them were out on the course with clients 2-3 days during the week with clients, plus another round or two over the weekend for pleasure.

If you want to play more golf, get a job at a golf course of all things? Get a job on an island...that is your answer.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
