I love when I read crap like this. Please inform me why you care what balls people are playing? If someone makes enough money to afford playing premium balls then so be it. I see that you are a "single-digit". You are probably just like many, NOT ALL, "single-digits" that I've come across........You think that you are god's gift to golf, have a crappy job that allows for a lot of golf, little to no savings, etc........ Am I far off here???? Keep up the good work down and keep saving that minimum wage.....maybe one day you can afford non-clone clubs and maybe even some ProVs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You sound like the most pessimistic, hate-life person, I've ever heard from.

I like ProV1's I like finding them to,I dont buy them because 50 a pop is way to far out of my price range but I do play Bridgestone B330 because I like the softer feel off the putter and wedge's, but hey if people dont mind loseing 50 dollars a month in golf ball's I dont mind finding them.

OK... this is a little bit of a rant...

I honestly don't understand why you even care....Play your game, and let other people play their's. If someone wants to have a $234234234 set of golf clubs and be a 20+ handicapper who cares!

On another note I think ball selection is huge. People need to realize the type of swing that they produce determines selection. I play (Or I should say I just bought) the Bridgestone 330's. Then again my driver SS is 120-125.

Hehe, personally I play the big bucket o' recycled balls, but I'm all for people playing more Pro V's. It makes them feel good and I can pick up some fancier balls when they lose 'em on the course.

people buy what they want. why should you care?

I think I explained myself if you actually take the time to READ my posts... or were you being lazy and not reading through the entire thread.

Why did you resurrect a thread that has been pretty much all played out? Furthermore, why did you do such without providing any real additional insight or questions? Also, I'm pretty sure I made it clear that there was no rational basis for my feelings, and I was just opening up a topic for discussion.

I am playing a very tough, tight course today. I will take my 26.3 hanidcap out there and see how I do. I will start with ONE Pro V1 ball. How many holes do you think I will finish with it? 0? 1? 6? After I lose it I will switch back to my Wilson ZIP, which, by the way, feel a little short on distance.

Dude, if I've ever played balata I honestly don't remember, the hot bite is not a bad ball but if you want to play a good ball try the bridgestone B330, B330RX,or the B330 S also if your looking exclusivly ay Callaway look no further than the Tour ix a great ball.

Honestly I don't think you would notice a difference,I'm sure there close enough in quality to pretty much be the same.

Played in a New Years tournament and broke out the last of my Pro V stash even though I generally use NXT Tour balls in the winter. I remembered why I like the Pro V's above all else with the first shot; It's the way they feel on the club face. The fact that they are great on and around the green doesn't hurt either.

If your gonna rant about something rant about people getting down on the ground and lining up their third putt for triple bogey like it was a birdie putt for the masters.......and then missing making me wait all the while

Amen. I always say, "Even if I'm playing bad, at least I'm playing quick" Hacks....I don't mind playing behind, that's part of the game.....SLOW METICULOUS hacks.....make me wanna skip the hole.

    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
    • Very much so. I think the intimidation factor that a lot of people feel playing against someone who's actually very good is significant. I know that Winged Foot pride themselves on the strength of the club. I think they have something like 40-50 players who are plus something. Club championships there are pretty competitive. Can't imagine Oakmont isn't similar. The more I think about this, the more likely it seems that this club is legit. Winning also breeds confidence and I'm sure the other clubs when they play this one are expecting to lose - that can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
    • Ah ok I misunderstood. But you did bring to light an oversight on my part.
    • I was agreeing with you/jumping off from there.
