I hear a lot of good things about mizuno irons, that they feel like butter at impact. I have some golden bear attack irons that came with my "beginner set" when I started golfing last spring. Since then I tried X-18s and Nike Sumos.

The x-18s are not for me I hate the way they feel. Even when the ball is struck perfectly the ball flight is there but they don't feel good at impact.

The sumos are much nicer IMO but they give a real Solid, almost reflect the ball feeling. Great flight but just not the same as my golden bears.

The golden bears face melts when it compresses the ball. It gives me this feeling that made me addicted to golf lol . Seriously. And these are out of a $130 set. I have tried 2 expensive iron sets now and while the ball flight is pretty on the x-18 and sumos there no further than the golden bears and certainly lack the feel.

So what I like to do is just buy a 6 Iron from a series and go hit it and I can tell right away if I like the iron.

I am wanting to try these mizunos and see if they give me that feeling I want. I dont need to change irons I love mine, But Its fun to venture into different clubs and who knows may be something I can find that I really love.

So in short What Mizuno irons cavity back have you tried. OR if theres another iron that really has that awesome melting feel at impact Id love to hear about it!

Thanks!

I understand what your getting at but even then "feeling" is relative. since no one here swings like you or perceives things the way you do. I would just go to a local golf shop and hit as many as possible and see which one is best for your swing and your game. Having said that within the Mizuno brand for you I would look at the MX line and stay away from the MP line for where your game is at, this includes the MX-25's, MX-200's, MX-19 and MX-900 sets if you want just irons. Mixed hybrid/iron sets are the MX-950 and MX-100. Good luck and don't limit yourself, try as many as possible. I have hit all of these though the only I have played a full round with are the MX-25's.

Most forged irons will have a very soft feel at impact. Look at the ping s57. They might not be forged but they have a very similar feeling.

Posted
Im confused. There are blades , there are cavity back , what is forged? Is that another word for a cavity back iron?

Those s57's look kinda of thin on the sole like my X-18 pros. I thought maybe the softness came from having such a thick sole on the club but then again the Sumo is thicker than my golden bears
and still not as soft so its really hard to say.

And I will look into those MX series now

Well if your a 36 (I'm guessing you are because thats what it says) then maybe try the MX-100 or MX 950. As you improve maybe also consider the MX-200 and the MX-25

There are tons of good irons out there mostly it depends on personal preference but if it is mizuno's your looking for than look no further than the MX 25 or the MX 200 seeing as that the x18 are more of a G I iron and the sumos are a S G I iron these should be right up your alley

No forged is the process used to make the club, the other common process is casting.

Here are a few articles for you; http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...50/ai_54378712 http://golf.about.com/od/faqs/f/cast_forged.htm http://www.igolf.to/view_article.php?article_id=5 While typically forged clubs fit more into the "better players" category the process itself really has nothing to do with the type of club. There are forged cavity backs (Mizuno) and Cast blades (Cleveland) on the market. And while some players, usually older guys, will swear they can tell the difference the casting process gets better and better with new technology and it's virtually impossible to tell the difference between two exact clubs, one being forged the other being cast. Do a forum search for similar queries and different opinions.

my best advice is if you know your iron distances don't change as you wont gain much if any thing and the change process isn't fun if you are use to hitting a 6 iron 170 every time. main thing with irons is that you know how far you hit them save your money and go to the range and learn how far you hit your irons.

I play the MX 200 irons and I doubt they'll leave my bag for a very long time.

Might not be the best for a 25 handicap, but I think you could play them and they'll be good enough all the way to the pro level if you get that good :)

I played Mizuno Comp Ez forged irons, Mp30 and currently the Mp33 irons.

I think the Comp Ez are great values for about $150. they have a nice soft feel and will improve you game.

JMHO...If I was starting out now, and really into Mizuno, I'd definately give the MX100s a try. I realize they are not forged. But the set makeup in the 100s are probably exactly what you need at this point in your game.

The hybrids in the set have the exact same shaft length as the irons they replace. That is quite rare. And the irons, from what I can tell, are a little more game improvement than super game improvement. The offset doesn't seem enourmous and the topline isn't terribley thick. The soles are fairly wide though, to help eliminate the fat shots on those steep swings. Maybe worth a look see.

A new set is $599 in steel 6-AW and graphite 4 & 5 hybrids. This way you aren't buying 3 irons you don't need. And the set in it's entirety should hold it's resale pretty well when your game improves enough for an equipment upgrade. I'm anxious to see what kind of review these get in the Hotlist this year.

Good luck.

Your comment is so true, and the right advice. I really just venture out to different clubs to play with them and try it as a hobby cause Its just something I have fun doing. I see very little distance differences in my clean iron strokes and Ive tried about 10 different named and off brands irons. So I realize a lot of it is gimmicky , But I am just in it for the fun.

Did anyone mention the MX-23s? If you end up liking the MX-25 6 iron, the 23s were very similar and can be picked up for a great price on eBay.

You might want to check out the MX19's, since they have been replaced by the MX100's there are some great deals available on them now, and they are a cleaner looking club than the 100's in my opinion.

The two irons that have my interest right now are the Bridgestone J36 Pocket Cavity and the Mizuno MP52.

Both are forged irons with a bit of forgiveness built into the head. I think I'd be very satisfied with each. Mizzy has quite a solid reputation. So does Bridgestone....they are really well established in the golf industry and make solid products. I'd feel good about either stick.

I'll be going with the Project X shaft as it is simular to what I've been playing with for years in my current sticks. 3iron=PW....(can't help it...love those long irons).

Gotta rehab my trick knee and get back hitting full swings and then get fitted properly and order whichever set I decide on. It's going to be between the 5.5 and 6.0 shaft....gotta see. Both offer corded grip options for no extra $$ so they be ready to game when they arrive.

Most likely going to start out at 3 deg upright and experiement from their.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
