PW in a set vs dedicated PW?

Hi,

I am wondering if anybody is using a dedicated PW instead of the PW coming with the iron set.
For me it looks like the PW of my set is more like a 10i.
When I compare it to the look of my CG14s, Vokeys or other dedicated wedges, the difference is obvious.

So here is my question: Do you use the PW of your set, or a seperate 46 / 48 degree PW.
If so, why? And if not, why not?

I use the dedicated club since I don't chip with my pitching wedge. All my finesse shots are either sw or lw. There are many that do use a dedicated pw, such as the last guy who won in hawaii, zach johnson. I don't like to bump and run it out that long so I don't really need that club. A dedicated wedge would help by giving you a better sense of distance control that a pw from set would not be able to provide.

Honestly, being a 25 handi, it won't matter. I play the 45 degree pitching wedge in my set, and it works fine for me. People worry so much about the lofts, when there's not a big difference betwee and a 45 and a 48, especially for a 25.

Admitted it is more a theoretical question (at least for me) about the different design of a set PW and a dedicated PW.

I play the W and UW that came with my set. I rarely use those clubs around the greens, so I want all the forgiveness I can get on full shots. I also get consistent distance gaps that way, too.

If you plan on chipping with a PW i'd say try it, idk If i wanna hit a bump and run I use my 52.

My iron set came with a 45* PW, but Ive got a Mizuno MP-R 47*. I did this to lessen the gap between my PW and my 52* wedge.
I hit my old 45* PW about 120 yards and I hit my 52* wedge 100 yards, so I switched to a 47* wedge to shorten the gap between those 2 clubs (I expect to hit the 47* about 110-115 yards).

It looks different because it matches your set and is an iron, not specially made to have a flange and the bounce is consistent with the progression in the rest of the irons.

Actually, the P in the AP1 at 45 degrees is what an 8 iron loft was about 20 years ago, so I don't think I'd switch out the P in that set, it really is more of an iron. The P in the AP2s is 47 degrees, and I was tempted to get a Vokey 48 degree instead, but I like the yardage I get with the P in my set, and didn't want to spend the extra money on a 4th Vokey wedge. A 41 degree 9 to what would likely be a 48 degree "dedicated" wedge to fit in with your other wedges, would be a big gap between your 9 and your wedge. I guess it depends on your yardages, and what think you need for those.

If i were you i would stick with the pw in the set, it'll give you more forgiveness.

i use the pw and gw that came with my set cause i love them that gw is my good to club from 110 in and i am great with it

well id say stick with the one you have the only reason i could see in wantind a differant pw is if you wanted a blade type one and being a 25 i wouldnt recommend it

I use the one that came with my set,it was a 47* but its bent to a 46*.I use it
cause i find it to be a good wedge.

Like other's ahve said, you want the forgiveness. Stick with it.

I bought the Adams A2s about 3 years ago. I love the forgiveness of the long irons, but am in the process of replacing the 8i-PW with forged clubs. I am doing this slowly, when I find a great deal, I'll buy a forged club. I found a mint forged 50 degree MacGregor Vfoil 455 Gap wedge for $24 on Ebay and a slightly used MacGregor MacTech NVG2 9 iron online for less than $20. I love the MacGregor feel. Will similarly replace the 8i and PW when deals are found (no rush).

This way, I get the superforgiveness of the long irons and the great feel and workability of the short clubs. PS the MacGregor clubs are also very forgiving.

I use the PW with my set cause i havent found a new PW i like very much. I added a 56* and 60* to my set.

I use my PW and Gap Wedges that came with my set, and love them, so have had no reason to even consider replacing them! They are 45 and 50 degrees. On another note, I had a 60 and didn't care for it a lot. I have added a 54 and 58 CG14 for the sand and chipping. I haven't played with them enough to determine whether I would want to replace my PW and W with CG14s, but I don't imagine that I will want to.
