1. How old was he when he did it? Was it last week? 2. Has he apologized properly? ANSWER: Yes, and has admitted that he has responsibilities as a role model 3. Was he doing cocaine, heroin, or a hard drug? ANSWER: Apparently NOT 4. Did I ever do something like that when I was young? ANSWER: You betcha. Am I a celebrity or did I ever run for elective office recently? You betcha. Could my "past indescretions" be used against me? You betcha. Can I handle that? You betcha. Have I done anything recently that would give me negative publicity? NO WAY, JOSE. CONCLUSION: Leave Michael alone. BUT---if he does something wrong from this point of time forward, barbeque him in the "court of public opinion"!!

People smoke pot, but people in the public eye shouldn't, for obvious reasons. He's a dumbass for smoking pot at a party where everyone and their mother has a camera phone. If the IOC or USA Swimming tested him now he would have to be banned from the next Olympics. His loss. Chances are, if he was tested they would "lose" the results or keep it a secret, as he's the best thing the US has going in the Olympics. Hell, I bet NBC would pay to cover it all up just to protect their ratings. Ah, the modern sports era - don't you love it?

As a parent of 2 boys who know who Phelps is and admire what he did at the Olympics, I'm a little disappointed. But as a guy who smoked a fair amount of weed myself when I was young, I can't hold it against him. Hypocritical, I know, but such is life.
