Are you using your hybrid to replace your 3 iron or to fill the gap between your 3 iron and 3 wood?

Mine is mostly there as a gap filler. But with a three quarter swing it's a 3 iron replacement as well. Best of both worlds.

haven't gone to a hybrid yet......yet

I actually haven't tried that many. I've toyed with the idea of putting one in for my 3 iron....but I keep needing my three iron for some shots and it just keeps working out nicely for me.

My 7 wood should be a 3 iron replacement, however this one is a bit hot and gives me 15 yards more than my 3 iron.

Gaps aren't too big in the bag right now.....except between my wedges. I've thought of getting one hybrid to take the place of my 3 & 4 irons and adding a gap wedge.

I tried hybirds and did not like them, went back to my 3 iron and 5 wood. I tried several styles from Callaway and Taylormade and just did not hit them well. I found I still am a solid enought ball striker to be effect with my 3 iron and I hid fairway woods well, so the hybrid just did not fit for me.

Years ago, my first hybrid was to replace my 3 iron. Now I carry 3 hybrids which are intended to replace my 5W, 3I, 4I and sorta my 5I (the 5H is between 4I and 5I). I like hybrids more than lofted woods or long irons so I have replaced all of those clubs with them.

I've just purchased a Mizuno MP Fli-Hi 21 degree to replace my 3i.

The course I play most often is pretty short and I'm a relatively long hitter therefore don't hit a lot of long irons into greens and thus don't have a significant 'gap' to fill.

I felt the need for the hybrid as I hit a lot of 3 irons from the tee and the Fli-Hi gives me a bit more margin for error.

In general I agree with Pelz when he says that the average golfer should concentrate on filling gaps from 100 yards and in rather than 150 yards and out (ie carry more wedges).

For a while I played with hybrids as 3- and 4-iron replacements. I used to hit them well but as my swing has improved I have become inconsistent with them (I know it's the shafts in the things, but it's not worth shelling out more than they're worth to re-shaft them). I can hit my new 3- and 4-irons well so I don't need those hybrids.

I am very interested in finding one to fill the gap between my 3-iron and my 3-wood. Don't want to try to hit a 2-iron (yet, at least), and don't like fairway woods enough to get a 5-wood.

If you like hitting your long irons then I'd recommend the Mizuno MP Fli Hi 19 degree. It's a hybrid but has the look of an iron, the feel is fantastic as it is grain flow forged in the Mizuno style. The 19 degree model is meant to replace a 2 iron so would fit the gap you suggest. Plus - you can pick them up cheap at the moment!

I'm still debating whether to carry a hybrid or not. Right now, I like my 5 wood so I would probably get a hybrid to replace my 3 iron (which I hit too low off the fairway).

I replaced my 3i with a 21* Bridgestone Air Muscle, (hybird iron as opposed to rescue club). Not as forgiving as a rescue club, but more forgiving than my old 3i. I can stick greens from 200 out and work it; its a great club.

I've had those and, IMO think that the Bridgestone Air Muscle is a much better club.

Ive got a 21* Mizuno MP Fli-Hi that replaced my 3-iron. I like it. I find it easier to hit than a traditional 3-iron and the ball seems to have a higher trajectory.

I ahve trouble hitting my 3I and 4I, so I am looking for a hybrid to cover that gap, BUT I will only get rid of my 3I. I use my 4I for long punch shots, that's all I can do with it. What degree is best for the 3-4 gap?
