Gheez....5 minutes into golf central the other night and they go to a remote "interview" with S. Appelby and he answers a bunch of awkward questions as to why he chose one callaway golf ball over the another? So, bascially, we get a 3 minute infomercial that is staged as an interview?

Then I go to the website and there is a big headline about "Callaway and Titleist Continue Ball Fight."

Wow......are times really that bad?

Yeah... I'm pretty sick of this... I with the two of them would just take their toys and go home.

Cheers, Allan

All the more reason to say forget Titleist and Callaway and start playing Bridgestones. Im sick of the Titleist vs Callaway fight too. They are both acting like spoiled brats.
I get sick of all the Callaway and Titleist ads on TGC as well, but all you can do is just not watch TGC.
Times are tough and all of the golf companies at at each other's throats to convince you that their stuff is the best and that everything else is junk.
The golf industry has always been fiercely competitive and driven very much by marketing hype. When times are tough and sales are slipping, you can only expect the rhetoric and propaganda to get worse.

They are both acting like spoiled brats.

As annoying as the legal issues can be (and really, how annoying is something you have to go out of your way to find information on?), both companies are under a legal obligation to protect their patents.

Spoiled Brats? Jeez. Lighten up. Or just be glad TGC is at least advertising golf stuff and not erectile dysfunction pills and banks for 26 minutes every hour.

True, but it seems like they are trying to beat the competition in the courts instead of out on the golf course.

When I read the press release by Titleist about the litigation, all I could do was roll my eyes and laugh.

Same headache here. I switched to Srixon.

Sure, why not? Srixon makes good stuff.

There's nothing that says they can't do both.

I remember when The Golf Channel first got started and Arnie was one of the owners. Now, I believe Arnie and Joe Gibbs are not owners at all, since the channel is owned by Comcast Corporation. Arnie and Gibbs helped to build it into a success and now Comcast is trying to make it even more successful. I have my doubts that they are doing this, in terms of advertising revenue and net profit.

Seems to me like a little bit of both. :| I think I've seen more commercials for Cialis than anything else.

And a simple search would have easily answered the question in the thread title. Long story short, Comcast owns TGC, as someone previously mentioned.

The question in the title was not literal of course, as I was simply trying to draw attention (in a humerous way) to the fact that The Golf Channel is really blurring the lines of journalism and commercialism. I thought the intent was obvious, but maybe it wasn't. BTW, I agree with the assessments above regarding Bridgestone balls...good stuff.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
