Just another habit question that I was curious about. When I don't hit driver for my first shot, I don't really tee up the ball. I'll take whatever advantage I can get and I'll basically put broken tee nub that I find into the ground to take the small variables out of my lie but I found that when I tee the ball up for my irons/wedges/hybrids, my distance control is not as consistent.

Do you guys tee the ball up for your irons and woods or do you guys basically hit off the deck?

Always tee the ball whenever you can. If I'm on a par 3 and looking for exact distance, I basically shove the tee nub down to the ground, maybe having the ball sit up 1/8" or so. If I'm on a shorter par 4 where I'm not too worried about distance, I'll tee it even slightly higher, especially with a wood in my hand.

Take every advantage you can get.

I always tee it up, but when Im hitting a short iron I will tee the ball up pretty low. With an iron, you want to hit the ball with the bottom 1/3 of the clubface, so there is really no reason to tee it up high.
With a driver you would want to tee it high enough that the ball hits the top 1/3 of the clubface (so you can maximize the trampoline effect), but not with an iron.

I always do. As Sam Snead once said "I've never seen a player good enough not to use a peg when the rules give it to him".

I'll always tee it up on the box. I'll use a broken tee no problem as long as it gets the ball where I want it.

i never tee up an iron me and the ball have a agreement i toss it and it rolls where it wants to go then it flies where i want it to go

I personally dont understand the logic of not teeing it up when hitting an iron. You can give yourself a perfect lie, so why not?

I always tee it up even if it's very low for my irons. Take every bit of help you can I reckon; the game's hard enough anyway.

I use a tee for any shot on a tee box. The exception is if it is a short, downhill par three where the shot is all feel and I am hitting a wedge. I don't want to use a tee as this may throw off my 'feel' and I may hit the ball too high or too hard since it is on a tee.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I don't tee it up on short irons (anything closer than 7 iron distance for me). I am very comfortable with these clubs and consistent with the distance. Even a nub of a tee seems to through me off hitting 7, 8, 9 etc.
I am all for any help I can get, this is just what I've found works best for me. Maybe I'm not good enough to tee it up each time?

And from Hogan, Nicklaus, and Trevino, as well.
