I used it for a few months and dropped it a couple of months ago. I noticed an improvement in ball striking, and I figure its because of the weight being consistently on your front side. However, I did lose some distance, and I think its for the same reason that my ball striking improved. I didn't feel the same power from the stack and tilt.

I went back to a traditional swing because the stack and tilt just didn't give me enough incentive to stick with it. I had more trouble working the ball and lost distance(around 6-10 yards with the irons), but I did hit the ball crisper. Just to add, switching back to a traditional swing was actually very easy for me, and I hit the ball just as well. I think the stack and tilt method could be used as a drill to help smother the ball and stay with the shot, make a clean follow through and get on your front side. Thats what it helped me do better!

Hope this helps. Overall I think it could be good for some players and not for others. It helped me out with my traditional swing.

I've struggled very hard to overcome a reverse pivot. I know the Stack and Tilt method is not technically a reverse pivot but I'm afraid it would be too close for comfort in my case. I'd be afraid to try it for fear it would lead me back to my old bad habit. How anybody gets any distance on a shot while leaving their weight on their lead leg is beyond me.

S&T; is intended to produce a low, tight draw on shots which brings in the distance however many of the pros that used to be S&T; guys have given it up with the exception of Baddeley. It's a real quick way to hurt your leading impact arm if you pound balls on the range and don't make consistent contact with the ball and clubface.

I guess my swing is kind of like the stack and tilt, but I fight a minor reverse pivot, and I don't get behind the ball properly, then I slide laterally toward the target, so that method is not good for me.

I switched last year late. I find I hit the ball a little more solid, piercing flight, but I have lost some iron distance. Not much 5-10 yards. But the Pros definitely outweigh the cons. I feel on a bad day I can squeeze a better round out than with my 1 plane aggressive weight shift method. Does not break down under pressure, and adrenaline/ nerves don't touch it.

I tried it when it was first printed in golf digest, I think that was almost 2 years ago. I noticed a sudden drastic improvement in ball striking. It lasted for about a month. Then suddenly, everything went wrong, really wrong. Not sure what it was but I could never get it to work again for me. So I ditched it.

Stack and tilt is on its way out. I would bet that it's out within the next year to two years especially now that Badds dropped it.

Did he give reasons?

I try and use it. I have a very hard time hitting my irons with the traditional swing, my driver on the other hand, I don't have as much of an issue with the weight transfer.

Driving accuracy was his reason.

I use s&t; for my irons. I think it's a good method to compress the ball better.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

Driving accuracy was his reason.

That makes sense.

I was struggling mightily with my swing; even took lessons and had the opportunity to have a free swing analysis at Golf-Tec. I still struggled with weight shift, rotation, hands, feet, ears, hat, angle of the sun, moon phase, everything ... always something out of sinc. I read the Golf Digest articles (2) on Stack and Tilt and decided to try. If I didn't have to shift and time that shift, hey! What the heck. So I worked on it, referring often to the article for the basics.

Like everywhere else you read on the web, I too had quick success. If anything, the more accurate shots boosted my confidence. Like everything else you've also read on the web, my swing slowly deteriorated. I attributed my decline - like any other swing - to a deviation from the basics. I got the article out again and went to the range and started over. The success I felt earlier came back. That was last summer.

Fast forward to this year - after a long winter off in WI - and I've started out just pathetic. Again, pulled out the article, went back to basics and it's slowly coming back again. I just feel comfortable with loading up the front side and not shifting back and forth and timing all of that. I'm 53 and not the most athletic person in the world. Like's been said on here ... to each his/her own. This S&T; or one plane swing or whatever, seems to work for me , if I stick to the basics. Which, I believe, can be said for any swing.

Hope that helps, sorry for the long diatribe!!!

I'm trying it out in the next few rounds. I hope it'll lead to more consistency. I don't really care about the loss in a couple yards. Accuracy > Distance.

I'm giving it a try, also. For ME, it seems to have helped. I'm now hitting down more consistently with my irons, with a slight but consistent draw. I have to work with my driver a little, but I'm quite pleased so far.

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.

    • I have been on a roll in November. Today was a 77 (69.2/115, 6,050 yards) on a wet course with dew covered bumpy greens. Better greens and I might have shaved a few more strokes off the score.
