I'm coming to you guys now and instead of a pro because they just mess my game up. It's march and I want to get my game going in the right direction.

At the end of last season I was right at an 8 handicap, which is the best it has been. I recently purchased new irons and I'd love to get my game down to a 3 or 4 over par area within a few months. 17 and eager to make this happen. I'll post a video of my swing when I upload it sometime tonight.

I can't give you detailed feedback like the swing check guy can but you have a severe sway. The good news is it's not a reverse pivot, so at least your weight is moving in the right direction at the right time. But a sway will make your golf swing almost solely dependent on timing, among other negative consequences.

Everything looks pretty good but I would try to make your weight shift a function of your rotation rather than one of the first moves of your swing. You could try putting more of your weight on your back foot at address, effectively 'loading' the swing. But I wouldn't say that is THE fix, just something to stop the sway. Still get through to your front foot at the finish though of course.

getting the weight onto your front foot as the above poster stated will also help with the slight casting that you have at impact on some of the swings in your video.

Your misses are sometimes fat no? maybe focus on the pulling motion in your downswing and getting the weight onto your front foot to prevent casting...

Two things for me......slow and still. I try to keep my back swing slow and my head still. SS..I write it on my ball and place in where I can see it when I tee off. If I can remember those 2 things I do well.

agree with him. that sway you have in the beginning of your swing will hinder your consistency. Also to me it doesnt seem like your extending your follow through at all. almost "short arming" it....but that could just be the video quality.

The video from your backside shows very little hip rotation on the backswing. It looks almost all arms and shoulders. Now, I'm definitely not someone who knows the golf swing inside and out but hip rotation is one of the things I try to really focus on. Try to get your left buttock pointed almost at the target then use the hips to fire your upper body through.

Like a poster earlier I use two pre swing thoughts ........ Slow back, and head still, (not head down, head still)

During the swing the only thing I really focus on is from the top of the backswing, gathering force rather then hitting the ball.

Alot of you mention sway as a major defect in my ability to maintain consistency. I don't really see it as a flaw, more or less just something else to think about during my swing. Granted the goal is to think about the least amount of information possible but if thats my swing thats my swing.

And as for being too dependent on my arms and shoulders...you want a arms-based swing? Take a look at Geoff Ogilvy.

Last season it was probably right around 30.

If you are at 30 then that is pretty good, if you are in the mid 30's there is room for improvment. Tiger averages just under 30 amazingly. I was just trying to figure a more direct way for you to lower your score. Usually the short game, chipping, putting and sand saves, are good ways to shave a few strokes without making any major swing changes.

yeah I hear what you're getting at. My handicap was from last year so I'm probably not there yet but more or less when I would make mistakes it would just be that one iron shot that misses the green and I can't get up and down. I didn't have the best iron game last year so it put a great deal of pressure on my short game. Thats why I didn't get my handicap lower. New irons...hopefully a better year.

For driving my swing thought is "elbows together".

For irons I don't really have a swing thought but I lock on to the back of the ball with good focus. I guess my swing thought inconsciously is "head still".

For wedges my swing thought is "smooth".

    • How would you change the rule to make it more "fair", and still be consistently interpreted and enforced?  It may not be perfect, but as a referee I can watch a player and look at the ground surface and make a ruling.  How can it be changed to address different players and their individual height, weight, and shoe size?
    • A bit old.. but this rule is kind of unfair ...  Lets say that you have Emiliano Grillo and Darren Clark playing together on a PGA event and on one hole both hit the ball to the middle of the fairway only 1 inch apart. When they arrive to the ball Darren take his stand and water comes out from the ground and remains there so he procceds take a free drop on a dry area and hit his shot.  Afterwards Grillo takes his stance in the same spot as Clark, but because he is a lot ligther, no water araise from the ground. According to the rules he is not allowed a free drop from the same spot darren had a free drop seconds before. I would love to see this happenning live on TV. Can an argument be made by grillo? could and official use the "spirit of the rule" to let him have a free drop?
    • Day 84 (24 Jul 25) - Weekly nine hole round cancelled as the course was tied up with a ladies tournament.  No worries - set up with the 54deg wedge and worked on varied shots with green side focus in mine (those nGIR's).  Worked between high floaters and low spinners from varied lies replicating the types of lies I typically see on the courses around here.
    • I meant lb for lb - so yes I agree it's wheel weight. How would you go about explaining that to someone? Perhaps the rotational inertia being higher with heavier wheels and the rotational inertia of the wheel requiring more torque to make its angular acceleration increase at the same rate?
    • Day 7: Had a virtual putting lesson with @iacas. Spent some time afterwords working with the metronome.
