Tried Vardon for a bit, but started hurting my pinky. Switched to interlock. Vardon feels a bit more stable to me, but it also feels more uncomfortable.

Same here

Ive always used interlock grip. I didnt know of any other way to hold a club until i started taking instruction. I use a reverse overlap for chipping and pitching though...lol.

10 finger on all clubs but my driver which I interlock... Not sure why but I can't change now...

Funny, I've been doing just the opposite. 10-finger has helped cure slicing my driver (along with less right-hand grip pressure.)

vardon for me, a guy at my course plays cross handed ,so his left hand is below his right hand , so in effect he has a left handed inter-locking grip ,playing right handed laugh you might ,he plays off a 4 hcp

I interlock, but made the switch to the vardon grip solely for putting, which has improved my stroke I think.

More importantly though, I made a critical grip change recently that has me hitting slight draws and straighter shots. I turned my left hand in more so I can see three knuckles now. It felt awkward at first, but I really like it.

With irons I used vardon for years... This year i switched to interlocking and it seems to help me keep my swing in plane. But that may also be that i learned how to focus on my plane in a new way that helps me strike better. I dont take a divot anymore but am getting better distances and more consistent ball flight

here is a question though....

Should you use one grip for all clubs. I do vardon when i drive(I can shape better). 10 finger when i chip and putt. Would i be more consistent if I used the same one for everything?

I have been using a reverse overlap grip for all shots for a long time. I am a righty. My main problem is arthritis and enlarged knuckles of my hands, and the reverse overlap (left index nuzzling between third and fourth right fingers) feels the least strain on the hands. The two hands feel compact and unified. I should also say that I use a glove on both hands; having a glove on the right hand minimizes the shock transmitted from the club. And I have graphite shafts with all clubs except the putter. I have to cater to the hands to get through 18 holes. That may all sound rather dreary, but I enjoy the game very much.

None of the above. I am self taught and grip the club how it feels natural to me. Its kinda of a modified overlapping grip. Instead of overlapping my right little finger, I overlap my left index. Might be the reason for my power fade!!

Same grip I use now.

Started with Vardon, then went to 10 finger, then to interlock (long fingers didn't help, but I liked the grip)...then went to modified overlap as you described. Just feel more in control with entire right hand on the club (former framing carpenter...I am used to driving nails with the right hand and the hammer) No problem with the fade on a mishit, misses are a hook for me with that grip.

I play the grip in Ben Hogan's 5 lessons; whatever it's called. It's a fire and forget kind of grip. The only thing I can do wrong with it is grip too tight, and that causes a hook I can live with.

When I want a lot of wrist I go to the baseball grip that I started my golf life with. Not terribly repeatable with full swings, but it's good for pitching.

Ben Hogan is my swing coach.

Heard an interesting tidbit on the broadcast yesterday:  more young kids are using the interlock vs the overlap grip of late.  I guess this could be attributed to Tiger.  I've been an interlock guy with a short, unsuccessful experiment with the 10-finger.

There's been a lot of discussion on this site around gripping the club but I don't recall a poll about it.

I use the interlock grip that I was taught at a young age (even though I did not play seriously until age 40).  It is what my father showed me and nothing else feels as comfortable.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
