Anyone know what it is?

According to golf.com:

Tiger Woods had been using an 83-gram Mitsubishi Diamana White Board shaft in his drivers for several seasons. But on Thursday morning his Nike SQ Dymo 380 driver was outfitted with an 85-gram Oban Mach 4 prototype shaft. On Wednesday, during his practice round with Payton Manning at the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, the world's No. 1 player had an 89-gram Aldila Voodoo XPP8 prototype shaft.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Doesn't make much difference to me. I'll never need the same shaft he plays. The majority here won't either.

5/14 fairways... if Tiger can start hitting fairways, boys, watch out. But changing his shaft isn't going to do much in that regard.

couldn't agree more. We can't afford 1000 shafts nor do we need them.

But if he became a great driver of the golf ball (Sergio Garcia) he would be even more ridiculous.

I think it is irronic how 1 and 2 in the world are probably the most inconistant drivers of the ball on tour.

Brian

No one will ever have the shafts tour pros have. They are frequencied and spined as well as built specifically for them. They have technology in those clubs you could not think of for golf. They shut down Nike's production factory when Tiger asked for new shafts, they built him 30 new shafts to test and frequency them so they were perfect, and then started the factory back up for public shafts. That is insane.

V Grooves might change a lot of things next year. I agree though...they are both "average" drivers. They are on tv so much we just see the bad ones of these 2 more than the field.

It is not too difficult to get shafts played on tour... I've had a few, but I'm not good enough to tell they are any different or better than the high end shafts just about anyone can order with an expert club fitter. That said, I have gotten high reputation shafts that seemed "off" and felt strange... and had to replace them with something else.

You have to get a shaft that will fit your needs, this is why you should not just order a shaft because of how it looks or who has hit it. It is all about what your swing needs and that leads to better swings and better shots all around.

to hit fairways, Tiger needs to fix his swing. When he is balances, he hits fairways, when his hips turn too fast, he does not. Key for him is to keep his right foot on the ground. When he does this he is so accurate, but he like to hit it long, so he snaps the left leg straight, spins the hips and hit it long in the rough.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

I'm pretty sure he's not doing the "left leg snap" anymore, or at least he's trying not to.

But I agree about the balance. His balanced driver swing is deadly accurate, it seems like, but he likes to get that extra 30 yards sometimes... and on some holes he can at this tournament. On some he cannot, though.

I don't know if it was confirmed, but on the TV coverage of Day 4 of Quail Hollow, one commentator said that he's tried 3 different shafts during the week.

Yep - that'll be me as well!

Some days, I rip the driver so well that I get start playing 'TV Golf' then and it comes back and bites me. The 2-iron and 3-wood are definately my default 'go-to' clubs.

I seem to remember seeing hitting an Aldila Voodoo shaft during the practice rounds, but not in the tournament. Maybe it would have helped. He's just like the rest of us with his equipment. He tinkers all the time. One thing he doesn't mess with is his putter, that's the money stick!
